Well I think the time has come for some new tyres for the Prado. It currently has Pirelli STR tyres that have been okay but recently all the suspension repairs I've had done have also revealed these tyres short comings. We are generally hard top caravanners but I'm looking for any advise as which brand and type would suit best.
I've seen reviews for the Pirelli ATR tyre that do seem favourable but I would like some advise from all the knowledgeable people out there in Expanders Downunder land. As with so many brands sometimes it can be a "Holden vs Ford" thing but I'm totally open to any advise.

Had BF Goodrich AT's, then Coopers (won't buy them again)
Went to buy Goodrich's again then upon recommendation by the Tyre Dealer when I told him what I do with the Cruiser he recommended I try Hankook ATR Dynapro's!

So far really good handle well all surfaces and not the dearest!

Also have bf Goodrich, been good to me , would buy again.
However I have a brand new Yokohama underneath as current spare, which I will buy 3 more and put them on the road with the spare, and pick the best bf Goodrich to under as spare. This will save me buying a fourth tyre and use up the spare before it gets past it's use by date.

I along with a few on here are running Bridgestone D697's in 265x65/17 and although only had them on for 10k are very happy with them. Not quite as aggressive as the BFGs but still look good and handle really well. I did a bit of research and at $258 a corner from Bob Jane was happy with the price. Lot of reviews stating 80-100k life out of them, time will tell but mine are wearing well.

Have run 2 sets of Yokahama Geolanders and they were damn good, 90,000k out of them probably could have got a bit more, not noisy even when getting old, good grip everywhere except mud which is to be expected, made a mistake of putting on Pirelli Scorpions last change, they didn't have 4 Geolanders and didn't want to wait, found the Pirellis to be okay grip wise but now at 65,000k they are noisy and don't think they will last another 10K going back to the Geolanders better value. Would love some Michellins but don't need a mortgage again.

1. BF Goodrich AT's... Got 75K's out of the front ones ( Must remember the wheel alignments in the future  ) Great in dirt etc.. A little road noise but easy to put up with. Reckon I would have got 100K's out of them.
2. Mickey Thompson ATZ's... Had them on the cruiser for 50K's before selling it. Would have only worn about 40% at a guess. Great off road but a bit of road noise similar to the BFG's.
3. Maxxis 751's on the Poojero... Only had them on for sand and bitumen... Very happy with performance but not sure about wear and tear as only used them for 3 months before trading.
4. Currently Bridgestone D697's and very happy with them after 40K's... no road noise compared to some others, good in sand but a bit slippery in mud (But then again what AT tyres wouldn't be?)

Next replacement would be a tossup between BFG's or Bridgestones... Would love another set of Mickey T's but not at $400+ per corner :o

I had 694's on my 120 Prado and when I bought my 150 Prado I put 697's on it. Very happy with the Bridgy A/T's. Probably go them on the Cruiser when it needs new shoes. I would go Light Truck construction also.

Have BFG A/T on the patrol, agree with the 275 as opposed to the 265, just make sure your spare is the same size. Done around 70k so far so good. Pretty good on the dirt as well.

The BT has Cooper st Maxx with 30k on them without any issues.

The Pajero has Bridgestone 697's with 13k and perform great. You mention you are mostly hardtop tourers and with this in mind this would be my pick. (My opinion only :))

Good luck.

If you do a forum search there is another thread on here somewhere too :yo:

Agree with @cruza driver 's comment regarding mostly hardtop use but if $ conscious the Maxxis would be an option but as I said earlier can't comment on the wear and tear performance!!

On the Prado I like many have the BFG's. Not a bad tyre but I seem to get excessive wear on the rear but I suspect this was from a trip up the Oodnadatta, across the Simpson then down the Birdsville all towing a CT. I think my rear tyre pressures on the two tracks were probably a little high. I don't think I will get anywhere near 75,000-80,000km others are reporting.
I had one split on that trip

Next I would consider the 697's

Go on the intergoogle and check out the new Maxxis 980 or the Roadstone Pro RA8 L/T tyres as we are getting great reports on these tyres for the cost ..
The 980 is a copy of the BFG tread , Roadstone a bit like the b/stone 694

mmmmmm decisions decisions decisions............
what sort of driving do you do @Greeeny ????
90% highway / 10% off road
50% / 50%

my personal choice is the BF Goodrich T/A KO always get good life out of them very good on road, as well as (MY opinion) best off road, as long as you not going nuts in a Competition Rig
bfg TA KO.jpg

next best for an "ALL ROUNDER" would be the Desert Dueler 604V
bridgestone-dueler-604v.png
similar to the BFG but not quite as good as

I had the Bridgestone 697's on a 150 Playdoh earlier this year, and had no road feel with them (maybe car / maybe tyre) so I was not impressed (high speed cornering on the Hwy felt vague, was it going to slide etc - at 110Kms.......)
Bridge 697.jpg
the 694's look the same, so no comment from me.........
bridge 694.jpg
I currently have the Mickey Thompson BAJA MTZ on mine - no complaint so far - been there about 50000km so far..... NO NOISE is the only reason they are still there...... otherwise the T/A KO's would be on there in a flash....
MT MTZ.jpg

I have heard good reports about the Micky T's ATZ's
MT atz.jpg

but I have a mate who used to sell Hankooks, so a lot of the guys in my 4wd club have them, they are ok I think - no complains yet

I have have had the Roadstone - anyone want them free........??? (can't even give them away) cheap and nasty crappy things
go out of round in about 30K - 40K - unless they have finally learnt how to make a round tyre........

never liked Maxxis
or Coopers
