As you can see from the avatar our van is getting quite long in the tooth. Circa 1975 coronet 11 feet. Believe it or not we sleep 5 in here. Me and missus children, 16, 9 and 3. Space has never been a major concern for us if required we spill into annexe. Also original. We have 2 campers as well 2001 Dingo and 2009 off road. Fourby was sold about a 18 mths ago and tug is now 2010 XR6. Must say pulls much easier than 2004 3.0 patrol however obvious restrictions apply to destinations. However lots of free camping has been done with this caravan vehicle combo.
We are interested in a Jayco Starcraft 2013 16.67-1 with the triple bunk rear. We know its not an expanda. Hope its still ok to be members here. We camp in canvas in our camper trailers just as often as van. Have obtained a reasonable price including annexe and some options. Seems like its well below tow capacity of falcon XR6 looking at outback model for extras and clearance. In the past rear of van has scraped legs etc. at some sites and exiting servo driveways...
Noticed Moto Moto had some reference to this van. Current model slighly different to photos shown. Now has fibreglass frot and rear. Dealer explains to many complaints about stone chips on alloy panelling therefore change.
Falcon has 2300 max tow capacity and 230kg tow ball weight. Starcraft seems to be approx 1500 tare and 190 towball weight. Battery may off set some towball being under rear bunk. Our friends tow their 17 ft dual axle expanda with 2011 territory same towing specs. Tow ball weight seems a little high for this particular model and no doubt WDH will be used. Not interested in toilet shower model at this stage and teenager is probably only there for occasional trip. Third bunk will be available for kids to bring a friend on weekenders. Lots of camping still done with 4x4 club we are still in. Camping varies considerably from C.P parks to free camping and dirt road access. No real off road it as an XR6 after all. Outback model purely for clearance, extras and if in future a new fourby. No real off road expectations for this van.
Any opinions would be great. We like ease of setup. After ten years in camper trailers and still having the option of campers would miss caravan beds already set up. Coronet will going to friends.

Gday and welcome aboard there Sydxr6 , love to hear your into free camping and dirt road stuff . Another way to offset ball weight is a water tank rear of the axle:applause:

:welcome: @SYDXR6.
We don't care what type of van you have. Just as long as you use it. And it seems you will be getting a lot of use out of it based on your write up.
Enjoy the forum.

Thanks Bush Palace I'll see what Jayco say about locating the tank to offset some weight when filled. Don't expect it would offset much on compliance though until filled. Really appreciated any further advise to help with tow ball weight. Understand about weight distribution etc. Usually travel with a light load in boot, however we have a aux. battery isolated in the boot.

Welcome @SYDXR6 I hope you get some good ideas off here and we would love to see pics of your van even if it isn't a expanda.

Welcome @SYDXR6 . Great intro. I reckon you cant go wrong with a new Jayco. If it doesn't suit your needs just sell it and get another one!

Looking to pick up our van in a week or so. Anyone with any links to threads with a handover checklist?
