Hi All

great site, been lurking for a while and as a result we (me, wifey and 2 kidlets) ordered a 17.56-2 (non OB) last weekend at the Albury / Wodonga show. It is our first van and we are planning to do the big lap in 2016. Actually we have an onsite van and annex on the south coast of NSW but it aint goin' nowhere.

So really happy with the van purchase but am undecided on tow vehicle, which I'm hoping to get some opinions on. Challenger or Colorado 7?

Test drove a Colorado 7 today and the salesman said it could be driven in 4wd high on sealed roads. But I thought that this was a no no as it doesn't have a centre diff, like the Challenger. Which raises the question, is it important / useful to have 4wd when towing on roads?

I like the Colorado 7 better generally, but like the Challenger price, although I'm a bit concerned that the lower torque and 5 spd gearbox on the Challenger won't be up to the task. From my reading this site I gather that there are lots of happy Colorado owners out there. Hoping to get any thoughts.

Cheers (hmmm, do I need to sign off or does it do it automatically?)

Welcome to the forum, You'll get lots of help and advice here.
There maybe better options than a Colorado7 - Isuzu MUX or the new Ford Everest. If you only plan on towing on the bitumen then consider something like a Ford Territory which come in RWD or AWD.

Just a point on 4WD - under no circumstances should any 4WD be driven on bitumen for any length of time. Should only be driven on dirt surfaces to allow for the "slip", prolonged distances in 4WD on bitumen will caused damage.

I have towed over 40K with a Territory and would highly recommend it.

Also to add a sign off line you will need to go into your profile and edit from there.

Hi @DaveC congrats on the van and congrats on leaping from lurker to member. Very popular van, and you'll be well placed here for great advice from great folk.
Good luck with tow vehicle question? First post and your already picking a fight :fencing:
Anything made by Nissan is good, anything made by anyone other than Nissan is not :behindsofa:

Welcome @DaveC, both of your vehicles are good options for towing. You will not need 4wd when towing on bitumen, or even dirt for that matter. If you are not taking the car off-road, the Territory is another option, although the Coly and Challenger give you greater freedom without the van.

Don't listen to @Crusty181, I think he is a little delusional about how good nissans aren't:behindsofa:

Thanks all for the responses, I appreciate your opinions (and allegiances). Hadn't considered the Territory before but will give it a closer look.:)
