Hey all.
Recently put a deposit on a new Jayco Expanda 17.56-2
Getting very excited but a little confused on exactly what needs to be done to our Tow Vehicle Prior to pick up.
as far as i can work out i need
*Electric brakes
*12 pin trailer plug
but have had people tell me we need
Sway bars and weight distribution hitch
not 100% sure what these are and if they are needed
Current tow vehicle is 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee petrol with airbag suspension
and info would be much appreciated

Hi @Jason Rumph
Youll need a brake controller fitted to your Jeep and a 12 pin trailer plug as well.
whether you need weight distribution hitch it would depend on the jeep but with air bags i would think not .
sway bars ? if you are getting esc fitted to the van then no you wont need the bars

Welcome Jason to the forum and what you have is enough , however you might find you need a wdh as it puts more weight back onto the front wheels. I doubt you need sway bars. I would see what it is like first then get the wdh. Others on here with Jeeps will be able to help as well.

Welcome to the forum @Jason Rumph ... As others have said the first two items on the list are a must. WDH will depend on how things look and feel once hooked up but as @17triton said they do put weight back on the front wheels. Sway bars are a personal choice but the new van should come standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) fitted. The sway bars work on friction and "should" prevent sway as it starts... The ESC will detect sway after starting and apply the brakes to pull the van back behind you.

Other Jeep owners might be able to confirm the WDH requirement.... Does your Jeep's owners manual make mention of WDH Bars?

OH and good choice of van ;) Did you go the Outback or Tourer?

As a Grand Cherokee owner, if your referring to having Quadra Lift on your Grand Cherokee, you won't need a WDH.
If your GTM of the van is over 2000kg you will need a break away battery monitor.

12pin for fridge/battery feed to van, brake controller and ESC if fitted.

Here's my setup with a P3 brake controller and breakaway battery monitor, inside centre cubby.
