Hi, my wife, Dianne, and have ordered a new 2013 16.49-3 OB at the Rosehill show a couple of months ago. Originally it was going to be December, which suited us as we had already booked a holiday first 2 weeks of October, but we have now been told it should be delivered first week of September. As others have stated, the waiting is the killer.

We are new to caravaning. Owned a camper trailer 20 odd years ago and went to the show to look at new ones. Had a good talk on the Sunday night over a couple of wines and both decided that we would prefer something a bit more solid etc.
The show special came with 150lt fridge, windup antenna, privacy screens, solar package, lifestyle package. We then upgraded to the roof A/C and the control panel.

We will be towing with a 2012 SZ TX AWD Ford Territory diesel.

I have been looking at the forum and getting some great ideas and advice and thought it was about time I joined.

:welcome: BruceD. Glad you've decided to join us. Sounds like a nice package. We'll help you through the waiting period! You've got a few months to plan some mods.

Welcome BruceD you will have a great tow and tug there. Have you thought about the drawbar extension, a lot of members here got it on theirs. Handy if you ever want to put a toolbox for a genny or bbq.

When we ordered in Sydney, on the Monday, we were told that Jayco wouldn't need our final configuration until Sept, that is when the van was coming in Dec. On the Friday the Canberra dealer rang us and said that Jayco now wanted all orders finalised by the next Monday, and the van would arrive Sept. We felt that we were being rushed in making up our mind on extras etc. The extended drawbar never crossed my mind until I started reading posts on this forum. By then our order was in. Have not asked if we can add anything to it. Also everyting just kept adding $$$$$$$.

Relgate - it is age and having a contract where I work 3 days a week with no budgets, timelines, clients etc etc and doing what i like doing.

Welcome BruceD, I'm sure you will love the new van. Does 23 years to go class as nearly retired? :). Good luck with that too..

Hi Geoff

I purchased a Tekonsha P3 over the internet from auotelec based in Bairnsdale.

The problem I am having is where to fit it. I am new to caravaning and am a bit duanted about towing a 2tonne caravan. All I have read is it is nice to have it within easy reach etc if something goes wrong. Others have it mounted on the the fuse panel cover. This seems to be a bit low and hard to see. I am thinking of having it mounted on the dash just to the right of the inatruement panel. It fits and I can run the cable down between the dash and the A pillar. I know it means drilling two holes in my dash but as I am intending keeping the car for a long while I am not too concerned about it. I wouls rather be comfortable in the position of the controller.

Hi Bushman

All the reports I read and people I have spoken to all have good things to say about the Canberra Dealer. I am dealing with Frank Lustri, one of the Dealer Principals. All of the people who work there have been very friendly and helpful. One of the salespeople has the same van as ours so it has been good talking to him and getting some advice etc

Cheers

Hi Bruce,
Canberra Jayco must be makin a mint, (so Should Bushman if he was getting commission),) that's where ours is coming from, we dealt with John, at Rosehill Show, think that's Franks brother. Seems to be either hole in dash or on the fuse box cover, ours is on the cover, least u can buy a spare cover if u need.

Frank, John and Roy are brothers, talk about family business, Roy mainly handles the workshop, I know Robert (operations manger) has 16-49-3 though think it's a standard version don't know about any of the others.
