Hi My Name is Pedr and I'm new to this forum and to the world of caravans . I have not purchased yet as I'm very unsure of which jayco to buy . My father has had lots of caravan and he is pushing us ( nicely ) towards jayco for our first van . My wife Mel and I have had off road camper trailers before but now we have a 2 1/2 year old daughter Chloe and we want to have a few more creature comforts , wife wants a shower and toilet and well I just want to know we are buying the write caravan for the type of travel we like to do and of course IDE like to get all your knowlage on jaycos and what to look out for . We live in Mackay and I have my own business ( mechanical workshop ). The van we both like is 16.49-3 outback expander but I'm not sure if we should be getting the bigger pop top with bunks and double bed that is not a expander . I want to do some dirt road touring next year and I'm not sure if the expander will leak more dust than a normal pop top ? All advise apprieciated :) I'm towing with my trusty old 2003 landcruiser 100 series V8 5 speed auto . Cheers Ped.

Welcome to the forum @Adventure Ped :) As @Holden_man said there are plenty of people on here willing to help you with answers .... OH and we'll help you spend your hard earned dollars too ;)

We started with a 16.49.3 (Not Outback) and was great for the two of us and whenever our daughter and her son tagged along..... Now have a 17.56.2 Outback poptop and absolutely love it (Had to get one with bunks now the grandson is getting too old to sleep in Mum's bed). With just the one little one the 16'er would do you perfectly as a starter and see what happens in the years to follow!

We have 16.49.3 OB and love it.

Have also done a bit of dirt road and corrugations and did little prep for most of that as they were a surprise encounter. Blame the gps!

Our van was one day old and we were still getting the feel of it when the trusty gps took us 150k on a state Forrest dirt road. Up hill and down dale and, while we realised we weren't going where we intended, decided to soldier on.

No problems, no dust and no breakages.

Since then we've done a fair bit of careful dirt road stuff around South Australia and the Nullarbor twice. Still haven't dust proofed the van and still no dust inside though we have replaced all the cupboard screws with longer ones.

With care it's all possible.

Best wishes with your decisions.

welcome @Adventure Ped
you have a great tow vehicle that will stand you in good steed. (did I say that..........?)
the 16' is a great van, just the right size for 3 people

while I have never intentionally been off rad in mine, as has been said, GPS's have a mind of their own some times

and I've not had any dust ingress yet, but as I said, not intentionally been off off road yet
