OK, I had been using a old 120 amp hour battery I had for a few years, however seems to have died :(

Will go and buy a new 120 amp hour, any recommendations ? Need it before the weekend as at a un powered site.

Don't get the gas omitting battery, as it's in the van, go sealed battery, type agm. I made the mistake before finding this site, now I have a brand new deep cycle sitting in garage on charge waiting for a boat or 2nd car one to go flat.

Well crisis averted for now, just checked with the multimeter and HR joint. All fixed now

Personally gas inst a issue as the vans are made to vent LPG so not really an issue as vents at the lowest part of the van and up high.

All ok then, I use agm just to be on the safe side of things, on our last van the manufacturer plumbed a tube from the battery box to an external vent.

The main issue with the gas is that fact that it contains sulphuric acid. This attacks all of the stitching on canvas, and things such as upholstery.

AGM batteries don't cause this problem

I have seen one give off sulphur gas as described above. I cannot describe how pungent the smell was and I was a touch nervous as I was worried about ignition source. It was located under the bed. You could smell it from well over 10 meters away outside. I was there as I am a plumber and the customer thought they had a gas leak at their house and rang it through as a emergency to the gas company. I would hate to see a battery gas at night while you were sleeping in a van.
