This is a recipe for a homemade mozzie repellent we used on our Cape trip this year, we have been getting a lot of questions about it from friends because it worked so well, just a few spray around the camp and the mozzies and midges dissapeared, it also takes the sting and itch away from insect bite. We mix it and use a 250ml spray bottle. The only advice I have is to leave the mixture for 48 hours before using it as it stinks in theat period but has a sweet smell after that time. The last batch we made is now 5 months old, still smell nice and still works.

Hi Hubble80,

Shelf stuff worked a treat, we used organic vanilla essence, not imitation and the lavender oil well that goes without saying, as in the recipe definitely leave for 48hrs before use.

We travelling around Sunshine Coast and onwards up to Airlie Beach. One of my friends lives around the Gold Coast and talks all the time about the midgies. I'm really worried, how bad is it?

Not really suitable for minors, but I find that after a few beers they don't bother me!!! Must be able to sense alcohol in the bloodstream!!!

There are plenty of home concoctions around like baby oil, citronella and Dettol in equal proportions. Put in a spray bottle and shake well before using!

We spray this mix around the ground, forming a circle around the van and had no midgies. We like to free camp so can't always run the a/c
