Just read this and thought I would share the LINK

Commonwealth Bank has launched the first tap and go banking functionality for mobile phones. The Samsung S4 is currently the only available phone to have the functionality. It uses the NFC capability of the phones.

Apple are still to include this technology in their phones!
Oh well. Guess it will come eventually for apple phone users. I personally love tap and go from a purchasing perspective. Makes it so easy. And now, easier again - if you have the latest and greatest etc.

Cheers

I worry about people bumping into you and going with your money.
Contactless cards work the same now.

Great convenience wise.
And no I am not getting some stupid protector to put cards and phone in.
Just the more people use things the more people look to get around things.
There has been many skimming devices on ATM and pos devices now

this happened to me also but not from a tap and go. Mine was part of a whole heap of visa numbers that had been obtained somehow through an online purchase that i had made. I only ever use very limited online purchases and ONLY through very secure sites. My bank, paypal, electricity provider, telstra etc.
Bank called me within minutes and cancelled that card and issued a new one. Just saying that the newer technology is not the only culprit for fraud.

We use a visa debit card for online purchases and only transfer the amount required for the purchase to the card, so normally there's only a few dollars on it!

In reality the NFC stuff is actually the most secure way to use your card, provided it's you using it! The mag stripe and contact chip are far easier to copy.
Any transaction you make online is risky as your CC number ends up in a database, and that's where the hackers get the big lists of numbers from.

NFC Technology?

No F*cking Clue! I stick with my old commonwealth keycard, the MOWAF has a mastercard but she won't use the tap n go chip. I asked the bank about theft/unauhorised use etc, and they said if we prove it wasnt us using the card, then they would refund any lost money, but its still a bit of a worry, isnt it? Kind of makes you wonder where we're headed with all this technology. Doesnt seem all that long ago making a call from a mobile phone was a novelty!

Well NFC has been around for a while now and to my knowledge hasn't been cracked like the mag stripe stuff has (card skimmers on ATMs) so I'd say it's far more secure in terms of copying your card data.
The danger is that if your card is lost/stolen then it could be open slather (up to $100 per transaction anyway).
So the easiest thing to do to protect yourself is never let it our of your hands for too long - i.e. Don't put it over the bar when running a tab at the pub!
