Wondering if anyone can advise on what to look for when purchasing this model. Also any extras that would be worth while. We took a punt on an old poptop viscount to see how much we would like and use it, turns out we all love it! Now were looking at upgrading. We will be doing alot on non powered camping but we do have solar panels from our original cvan. Does anyone have any tips for us? Thanks in advance

Check the for sale section of the forum, there is a fantastic 14 on there at the moment. May be suitable?

Hi Jo,

We are currently awaiting delivery of our 14.44-4.
They are a great model.
It really depends on what sort of things you want to do.
if free camping, look for solar. Look at the fridge size you want etc.
there are heaps of extras and only the $$$ will probably limit you.

We have this van & looked around for a while before deciding on a new van, a few things we did notice was if the A/C is internal you lose the bottom cupboard next to the fridge or under the front seat.

If it has a HWS these can be mounted either under the front seat or under the back bed, if it is mounted under the rear bed you lose the tunnel acces from out side under this bed which is quite a shame as it's a massive storage area, whereas the storage under the front seat is crappy IMO this is the better location for the HWS.

Fridges come in two sizes 90ltr or 150ltr

The microwave can be mounted in 3 different positions depending on options, 1. above the 90ltr fridge, 2.under the microwave if you have the internal A/C, same position if you have a roof mount A/C or 3. adjacent the door above the TV cabinet with the roof mount A/C.

Plus check out the My Jayco forum, there are a few of us who have shown off our 14.44-4's in there.

We are a family of 4, and are looking at 14.44.4 outback, we need to get the back bunks extended by 150 mm for our teenage kids + plus outside shower etc, is it better to buy second hand to save money then get extra's done or order straight from jayco? what have other's done? So l guess we are asking the same questions. steve

We have had our 14.44-4 for just on 2 years (as of tomorrow). We love the layout and the fact its smaller to tow and easier to get into tighter camp spots.
We have towed ours all around NSW, VIC and TAS. We got into some amazing tight camp spots on the bay of fires in Tassie that a few dual axle sterlings couldn't fit into, definatley a bonus.
Ours was one of the first ever run's of this model so hasn't been without its issues/faults. But once all sorted its been great. Be sure to get the outside shower, and use a simple pop up ensuite. Our HWS is under the bunk, I would have prefered not to have it there, so change this if you can. Ours also has a good little cupboard under the robe that a portable toiltes slides in and out of for the kids to use.
If there is one thing i wish i went for it is the simplicity suspension for a bit more ground clearance.
Good luck with your reasearch.

Yes thanks for the info, the hotwater under bunks could be a problem for through storage, we had a good look today at a 14.44-4 on road, but the clearance could be a problem, so the outback is looking better. we loved the 16.49-1 but still come back to the 14.44-4 cause we need a bike rack on back and love what they fit into a 14ft van. alot to think about......

Hi,

We are also in the market looking at the 14.44-4 - perfect for our family. Need some help with confirmation of travel heights. On the Jayco tech spec they state 2395mm (incl aircon). What is the height excl aircon as our door opening in the garage is only 2230mm.

Thanks,

Depends on if you get Outback or standard. Ours came with the Heron 2.2 air con so no unit on the roof. I couldn't tell you mine as if you ordered an outback now it has the new suspension and they are higher.
