Hey EG

An old trick so you could use your 15amp lead in a standard 10amp socket was to shave down the the earth pin. Do you know what risks potential could arise from this practice...You sound like you know what you are talking about!

My theory is they are different for a reason. The guru's will say what the risk is but I think fire would be up there. I am only a plumber but High amps through a small wire equals heat and also potential damage to appliances.

We have the ampfibian and mum and dad have been using it while they're staying with us. Their van is 2 years old and our house is 1.5 years old so all wiring is new. There have been a number of times where their van has activated the ampfibian safety switch and not their vans (usually wgen running the toaster, kettle and microwave at the same time). For our families safety we are very greatful for the protection

Hey Andrea, how are you going?

For the record:
- Toaster = 5 Amps
- Kettle = 10 Amps
- Microwave = 8 Amps

Total of about 20 - 25 A depending on makes of applicances doesn't work well for too long out of a 10 A socket outlet, hence why protection is required. Good to hear yours is working.

Antman, you are spot on. Cheers
