I'm planning a trip through the Snowy Mountains this January and was thinking of coming from the Khancoban side through to Thredbo via the Alpine Way.

Called up National Parks and they said I could go through however it is fairly tight.

I've got an 18ft Discovery, has anyone else ran the gauntlet through there?
Any other tips for the trip would be appreciated.

There is some tight sections near Geehi on the Khancoban side but it in saying that I would take mine through there. It is steep in places but sealed.

I havent done the section between Geehi and Thredbo though.

Perhaps I'll leave the van at Khancoban and check it out first before heading in. I'm going to wing it in regards to where I stay so don't really have a schedule.

went through about 12months ago, no van, very windy and steep, if you took it easy and slow it shouldn't be to bad, just put your vehicle in 4wd when descending, I would take mine through there but I only a 16-49 but only in the summer months. very pretty drive

Heading off on the 5th of January. Was supposed to have 3 weeks down there but my inconsiderate sister in law decided to get married smack bang in the middle of that so now its cut short.

Would be a shame if the car broke down and couldn't get back to Sydney;)

It's fairly tight and twisty heading up to the to sumit near threadbo. I havent towed through there but followed a massive 18wheeler with two large oversize snowmobile tractors on its back. It fitted so anything else should.

Great country side.
