Hi guys can't keep the van in the garage anymore as there is little room for error, and we have decided its not worth the risk.
My question is how do I keep my van safe in the driveway?

Insurance!!!!

Seriously, I have a hitch lock and some chain in various places.

But they are just a deterent if they want it they will get it :)!

I watched a video on a boating forum from a guys security camera when his boat got nicked and the guy had -

1) A wheel lock (A full on on one not a cheapy)

2) A hitch lock

3) Chain

4) Lowered his motor to the ground

Two blokes walk up, and in instant each of them have the locks in pieces and one guy is raising the motor whilst the other rolls the trailer out of the driveway.

Took them about 40 seconds to be rolling, you couldn't see what they did to remove it as it was crappy security camera but you can see each of them take a piece of.

Pretty scary to watch, the video got removed as I think they got the guys of descriptions but since then I put a few a things on but most off all make sure the van is insured.

Some people have been putting in GPS trackers and a variety of other anti theft measures like custom stickers etc etc.

There is a good read here with lots of informative posts and information -

Yep all just deterent, in my previous residence I figured if they could get it out from where it was parked they could have it, still it had hitch lock, the jockey wheel removed with a stand in its place, it also sat on a ramp on one side to level it.

Now it's behind locked gates in full view of the house with hitch lock and a feral Border Collie :D

I have often wondered about putting a hidden brake switch on the van. What it would basically do is apply power to the brakes when switched on. Theory being if a burglar tried to take the van they would not be expecting a scenario where they could not work out why the brakes would not release which hopefully slows them down slightly.

Mine is behind rolla door so first you have to know that it is there, then there is the hitch lock, rolla dooris padlocked to drive way. The tug sits in front of rolla door. Oh and if they did get it out of the carport they would then meet my dog a Bullmastiff. So need to be very brave but it is insured too of course.
