Hi all, just wondering what others experiences are with the add a room on the Kakadu annexe....

We are going to a site that has a large concrete slab so essentially the annexe and add a room would need to be set up on the concrete

Go figure!

Just wondering how they are setup and if it will work on the concrete or not?

I realise you have a rope track that holds the main wall section in but what else???

We haven't got the annex yet otherwise I would take a gander so just trying to figure out if this site would be suitable :)!

Hi expanda, yes the concrete can be a pain in the butt! Ok for a short stay but if you want to block wind it's a pain. Even if you put you wheel right on the edge of the slab most of the time (in my experience) the slab is still wider than the annexe so your awning arms can't be pegged down square and need to be on an angle to miss the concrete. It's ok if you don't want to peg down but in wind I do and use ropes, this means the end walls won't zip on in the corners unless it's made to be on an angle....if this makes sense.

If you know the forecast and wind direction (but that can change anyway) then you might know which end wall you are likely to use so position van so that the sail track is just past the concrete so you can peg down that wall also, most times slab is longer than annexe also. I have used occy straps to reach the grass before to stop walls blowing in but if you are planning for a longer stay then maybe grass is the go. Hopefully you understand what I'm talking about and I've been of some help.

Cheers.

I've had this problem too. Like most I use ropes for each upright and they are long enough to be off the slab. Intetnally I've used our large wrestle table sitting on the skirt with limited effect. My other thought is to carry some silt sausages, the type builders and landscapes use to stop sand and silt running down the drain. I have thought of carrying them empty and filling with sand on site. I also asked my annex manufacturer about the problem at the Penrith show. They said "oh, we've never thought about that"

I carry my cordless dewalt (with hammer function) drill to use for winding up and down that jack stands - NOW, heres an idea add another few item's in my little bag of tricks - 8mm masonry bit and a bunch of dynabolts. Drill a couple of hole bolts the legs down, un do the nut to release the legs when packing up and hay presto you done..

LOL LOL LOL .... That'll teach em for filling up our pretty caravan\camping parks with god dam Concrete slabs!!!! What a joke... The slabs should be for parking the vans on a nice level platform and having the nice soft dirt as the annex base - not the other way round - - how ever came up with this hair brain idea should be stricken of any rights to ever be affiliated with the outdoors again....

I have also dreamt of this. My idea was more along the lines of explosive fasteners. You know, the one like a nail gun that goes into masonry. BOOM.
I agree about the slabs. I am embarrassed to 'camp' on a slab. Its just another step further from the outdoors and 'real' camping. My friends (in tents and trailers) laughed at me last time we went to a CP. They accused me of pouring the slab in the previous weeks so I wouldn't have to touch the ground!

Never mind the slabs, The Red Outback gravel at the park we stayed in at Lightning ridge was compacted so hard you couldn't drive in a peg for love nor money, the park manager had a rotary hammer drill with a long masonary bit, it became a common sound around the park as people drilled their pegs in. one fella came in and decided to set up his dome tent on a powered van site, took him almost a hour just to do the base peg holes.

Luckly for us our awning ropes were long enough to reach a garden bed that divided the sites

I use a rechargeable impact wrench and hex head coach screws instead of pegs.
See my pics on "What did you do at the weekend" thread (5th Oct). If I can't peg down the awning posts, which is often, I simply use a couple of awning tie-down clips and guy ropes to hold it all solid.
If you've got a annexe edge on the concrete, one solution is to thread some of those big rubber band things thru the eyelets and slide an extending pole thru them. Then if necessary you can weigh down the pole ends with your sand bag or a couple of those collapsible water containers (filled up of course).
(Give me grass any day. Nagambie Lakes CP is the way they all should be done, I reckon.)
