Hi all, just getting prepped for our Cairns trip and need a jerry can as the pathy only gets around 400 between fills.

The metal ones look shiny but shiny is not always best as the plastic ones seem more durable.

What do others have plastic or metal and why???

Cheers.....

I have the yellow plastic one and it has been across Aus twice plus up to the gulf and down to the high country and had no problems. It sits on the draw bar behind a stone guard and has got me out of trouble a few times.

Just remember that a container containing (say that 5 times fast) can not be mounted in a crash zone and if there is one and you have an accident your insurance will wipe you.

Which state and is that for petrol or diesel?

I have looked all over the rta site but can not see anything about :(!

I was going to do this -

http://www.expandasdownunder.com/threads/want-to-mount-20l-jerry-can-to-expanda.43/#post-125

Further to this I found this funny -

http://www.mynrma.com.au/motoring/road-safety/on-the-road.htm

There is a section in there where they recommend carrying extra fuel.

Hey expanda I read about this originally on another forum. I did a bit of research on found some very basic information on RACQ's site here that states petrol should not be carried on rear mounted or on the front corners of a caravan. It also states that this is governed by the dangerous goods act. So I would assume each state would legislate through their respective dangerous goods act. The grey area in my head is in regards to travelling interstate and what would occur if one state says ok buy another says no? I assume from other things that I have read about interstate driving is that your vehicle / setup must comply with the state you are driving in and not the state you are registered in.

Now as for diesel... i guess this would also be defined in the acts as to how combustable this would be compared to fuel etc...

I know not a definitive answer for you but at least a starting point.

What parts of the van are classified as a 'crash zone'?

Ditto.
Hi, I wander if you know how I can query the forums for things like Series 14' or Expanda 14.44-5 OB?
The query engine refuses to recognise the numbers or letters like OB. Others have wandered the same.
