Watching with interest on this one.

How have you found the Jeep? Any info on yours you can give (fuel economy towing etc) would be good as people could use this as a possible comparison

I towed with a Jeep prior to buying the Land Cruiser. Jeep is a great tow rig and has the most important 3,500kg tow rating which is very handy. Handling and performance when towing was excellent and specially the fuel economy. I was getting 15-16 litres for 100km which I thought was excellent. As Cruza driver said, the Prado only has 2,500kg tow rating and has less engine power in comparison to the Jeep. I did also own a Prado many many moons ago (I think it was a 2005 model) and I believe the Toyota hasn't done any significant improvements to the engine since then. The Prado would also need rear suspension upgrade or WDH if you towing a reasonably heavy rig as the factory suspensions are very soft.

Hope this helps Cheers TRAKADU

Let's explore that word 'need'.

If it's to cart other parents kids around, get'em to catch a taxi. Same if it's your mother-in-law.

If you've got 4 kids, there are many willing people to adopt one out to.

Seriously you can't give up that Jeep.

Have a 2007 120 series Prado and tow a 17.56.2 OB. Tows it fine and most of the time you don't really notice it's behind you. Yes you can always do with more power but have not really needed it anyway. Prado now has 215,000k's on it as well and apart from a new set of Injectors at 180,000k that's about all I've had to do to it.

Can comfortably cruise on the limit and above if needed all day. Only mod is had the suspension upgraded mainly for the lift not the van. Got it done prior to buying a van. Normal OME 2" lift with medium springs in the rear. The car sits level when the van is attached.

Have never had a WDH on it and don't think I will ever put one on as it drives extremely well. It's all about making sure your van is loaded correctly. I prefer to have the tanks full as well as it seems to tow even better.

The 120KD motor from 2007 has plenty of power and different to the previous 120KZ. Also having a 6 speed manual instead of 5 speed.
Can sit in 6th most of the time on flat roads and just drop it back to 5th when needed. You will notice the van on big hills but I haven't come across any that stops me. On average I have been getting around 15.5lts / 100 with the van on most trips. Sometimes a bit more if headwinds, windy mountain roads or a lot of hills but averages out to that. Usually 2 kids, 3 adults (grandmother) and 180ltrs of fuel in tanks. Love the fact that i can travel with the van over 1000k's before worrying about fuel stops.

Figures are from mileage and how many ltrs i put in to fill so are actual not estimated.

Only thing I can ad is the Prado will probably be over its legal limit with 7 people and the van and that would render insurance usless I would be carful to run through all the stats before buying the Prado even if it meant taking the van over the weigh bridge in full travel trim. Apart from power the Prado is probably and adequate vehicle, the weight issue is one of the reasons we don't have one.

Any interest in a cheap Diesel NM Pajero? :) It'd be a cheap second car, 7 seats, and can tow the van if you needed to for a short run or there abouts. It's a decent drive to collect though...

Iv found the jeep great i love it 15ltrs per 100k towing a 16 ft expanda its realy comphy drives great looks good just prepare yourself for all the don't be rude you will get. We get alot but we have had no problems the tow rate is great my only little prolems would be only 5 seater and no room for dual battery for our engal but we can get a mini battery to stay in the back with the engal. Ours is a older jeep 2012 but the new ones are ment to be 7 1/2 ltr 100k on road without towing
