Hi Guys,
We have pretty much decided that the Jayco Expanda is what we are going to order next month at the Caravan show. So today we went to the Geelong Caravan show (as we are local) and had a look around. Most other dealers tried running down the Jayco product and pump there's up. My question is why do Jayco seem so much cheaper than any other brand? is because the are a bulk builder and dont use the flashy items the others do? and is the quality good and long lasting?
Thanks Mark

If you do the factory tour you will see why. They are a huge business pumping out 50 units a day. Did you know the owner of Jayco owns other caravan associated business' supply parts and accessories even to other manufacturers. They use the assembly line method, so that speeds up the process. It gets down to volume and scale of operation. I think the quality is good, you get what you pay for, the up side is they have great warranty in most major cities and their resale is excellent. If you are not sure, book in for the free factory tour and check out how they are made.

I tried really hard to destroy ours recently, 1500K of the roughest dirt/gravel/rocks/corrugations I could find and at speeds of around 100KPH (its a Jeep thing). Got home blew the dust out and sold it for what we paid 2 years ago, then purchased a second hand Sterling Outback which we pick up this week. I looked all over and nothing would compare with the price for what you get, probably the commodore of vans (reasonable van at a reasonable price)
Cheers

I agree with what others have mentioned, we are on our 2nd Jayco and have had the current one just over 4 years. Its been a great van and we have no complaints at all.

Click on my signature link for where its been ;) and good luck with your decision.

Agreed, we have had 3 campers and have now ordered a 20.63. Overall the quality is good, but with everyone there have been niggly little issues, but our dealer has fixed everyone quickly, without complaint and to our satisfaction. Whilst you could spend another 30-40 k on a full off-road van from another manufacturer, we have found we could take ours everywhere we have ever wanted to go, and they have all done everything we asked of them

Cheers

Whilst this is our first van, we looked around at heaps of others before settling on the Jayco.

We even compared vans like the Kedron which was very well built, but very old fashioned design.

The Kedron was $115000 vs the Expanda with better design and features for $65000.

Yes I know we are going to have some things break or go wrong, but the warranty is fantastic.

hi @Mark8 ,
yes the Jayco's are Mass produced
yes sometimes things slip through the crack with QA/QC
yes they are a great product (on my 3rd now...... 1980Jayhawk(push up camper trailer), 10 yr break from camping, 2007 Flamingo, 2013 16' Expanda) wouldn't have brought another if they were not fairly good
yes their after sale service IS second to NONE (never seen ANY manufacturer be as helpful and easy to deal with once you have paid your coin......)

as @DRW said,
I looked all over and nothing would compare with the price for what you get, probably the commodore of vans (reasonable van at a reasonable price)
Cheers

economy of scale V's hand built
is a rather large amount of coin when you think seriously about it

I never like it when Sales staff start to rag competitors,
I said to one once - "should you NOT be telling me about how good your product is for me to buy, instead of bagging your opposition?"
"oh, well, I am trying to help you"
" no your not, your heading to a lost sale is what your doing....................."
I figure, if you can only bag the competition, and not highlight the positives of your product,
I dont want your product as it cannot be that good.................

they are a great product (Jayco) for what you pay............

Also on my 3rd Jayco after 5 years with a camper trailer and a side step to an Avan Cruiseliner.

I also had @DRW chasing me through quite a bit of his 1500 Km run (that wasn't a Jeep thing :p ) and the OB travelled very well. The follow up service is 2nd to none and you don't have to go back to dealers as there are many agents scattered over the country and these are quite often more helpful than the dealers.

Hi @Mark8 , this is our 2nd Jayco. Started with a swan back in 2009 and took it all over WA. Now we have the expanda 21-64 OB, and love it. (Well the only thing I don't like about it is the cleaning of it. It takes a while)
The way I figure it, everything breaks now and again, but if you look after it and fix problems straight away...... Alls good in the end. (Plus jaycos tend to keep their value we have seen )

We got our first Van a Jayco as even though things will break they will fix them. Heard some not so good stories of after sales support from a few companies. We have had a few small things break or found broken on the first few trips. Pretty disappointing although I assumed we would have some. Might had more then expected :( a few people here and I met just fix things themselves.

If your traveling around Australia you get service support all around the country. Some places you need to return back to manufacture.

Yes there are other vans I have looked at and maybe still looking at :)

Same had 3 vans, looked at a few other models and nothing can compete price wise.

One big reason more so than price is warranty.

Wether I am in my home town or up the back end of Bourke a dealer / authorised service centre is not to far away.

Saved my bacon a few times and whilst small things just gives that layer of comfort if something big happended I would be ok.

I have had more vans than I care to poke a stick at, first Jayco was a 1996 Starcraft, great van, changed to a more expensive brand expecting better quality, didn't get the quality or after sales support. Back to jayco in 2008 for a 24,6" sterling, great van, had a very big issue out of warranty and Jayco stood behind their product 100% and fixed at no charge. Now we have a 2011 Expanda, had it for a couple of years and have taken it to the top of Cape York which shook the car to pieces but the van came through dirty but pretty well unscathed. I camped next to a $130000 Bushtraka at the tip, he had more problems than I had with the van, goes to say something about the strength of the outbacks.
