Hello all

I am trying to work out the sizes or the brand of the external storage hatches that Jayco are using on their new vans, the main reason is to work out how and were I am going to store my Baby Weber Q in the new van.

Hi Skippy, we have Thetford access doors, size 3, on our 16.49-1. I'm assuming Jayco use Thetfords on all models but probably different sizes depending on hatch size?
The size 3 is pretty small, but am thinking you will probably have a decent size hatch on the 20.63-1, so hopefully a larger access door too!
Ours is a 2011, so not sure if Jayco are still using Thetfords?

Hello Lara, thanks for that I will google Thetfords and see what I can work out for sizing.
I am hoping I can put a extra hatch underneath the lower Bunk bed and store the Baby Weber Q under the bed with a access door to the outside for easy setup and storage.
I am tring to get away from using the front hatches because that's were the scuba gear is kept for most of the time when on the road.

Thanks

Hey Lara

I had a look at Ch00ka77 post and that's what I was originally going to do with a different BBQ.
The only thing that worries me with that set up, is that the fat and heat are right below the anex roof when opened.
So I opted to go back to the Weber Q. So that the BBQ is portable and can be moved away from the van when cooking.

Now I am trying to work out we're I am going to store it so I can access the Weber Q though a hatch from the external Part of the caravan.
I just have to work out what hatch I need so I can let Jayco know and then we're I need it installed.

As for diving I have a mad addiction with the ocean and that's one of my favourite past times at the beach/ocean. But you can't forget about the fishing and surfing too.

That makes good sense to me skippy to have it portable so you can get it away from the awning and annex.

We run a 3m extension from gas bottle on drawbar to our BBQ for that same reason of fat and heat.
But also because I've had a fat fire on the home BBQ before, and boy do I mean a fat fire, scared the crap out of me...... Threw the kids inside grabbed my phone and honestly this fire was so big and out of control I didn't know whether to call Andrews mobile or 000.
Never want to go through that again, so I want our BBQ far from our Expanda and its canvas and vinyl.
Never a dull moment for me!

I know there's a few members that take their weber lid off for storage in a hatch, and from what I've read it's a simple job of pulling a couple pins. That way you can get a smaller hatch fitted for your weber to fit into!

Nice hearing of your addiction to the ocean, must be hard to stay away from it on the West coast! I love the coast!

In the last Expanda the boys were running around chasing each other and then one of them tripped over the 3 metre Gas cord connected to the van. Then at the same time the BBQ fell over. :eek-53: OMG and the thing was on fire and then the BBQ kept on blazing away with me scrambling to self right the thing and try and stop the flames. I must have aged 10 years I recon in those couple of seconds. :biggrin-new:
Never want to have that happen again or any other fat fire near the van.
This is why I two are going for the portable option away from the van.
O and buy the way the boys now walk around the BBQ lol hehe

Yeah mate i like like the idea of being well clear of the van and awning too. We set up the weber on the portable stand with a 4kg bottle and chain it to the bumper or some form decent structure so it doesn`t go walkies. I can`t fit mine in any hatches (bugger it) so i have to chuck it in the back of the triton. Good luck with the hatch.

Good reminder. Unfortunately, chaining 'em up is essential. I use a HT cable and dual padlocks (usually to rear bumber)

hey skippy we went through thee same thoughts you are going through now and as I posted as while ago we opted for the slide out model BBQ but what we really wanted is a hatch big enough to then make a slide out weber q which would be perfect But could not do as the internal height of the bottom bunk was to low and they could not raise that. but I think if you have ordered the 20 foot version the height of the hatch will be larger than standard. Also as for fat on the awning we do not have any and this is the third pullout BBQ we have had in a van but if we had a annex I wouldn't bother about a slide out. Thank.

Good set up there Brad and Ch00ka77
I was thinking of doing the same thing as that at the rear of he van with the slide out,we do a lot of free camping on the side of the road and I am thinking of that sort of set up for camping on the side of the road would be great.

But when set up with the annex down I will have to make it portable out from under the awning and then just have the set up on the stand.

Also after listing to Triton it might be a good idea to start chaining the BBQ. I never bothered due to my weber looking old and well used but I think I might change that from now on though.

Yes skippy It only takes one dodgey bugger to like the look of it and more and more people know how great they are now as well!
