We recently bought a new to us Dec 2011 17.56-01 OB. My question is, were inverters standard on OB then or would it have been an extra? How would I find out if there is an inverter on our van? If there is one would I just turn battery switch on and plug a 240v appliance in until I find an active power point or was there a designated point in OB? The van has one battery and no solar or solar provision
Thanks in advance for any help.

AFAIK there was not even an option of an inverter to be fitted.
I doubt very much you have one fitted unless it was fitted by the previous owner but describing your setup you would have a separate power board running off the inverter.
Have a look under the seat where the battery and SETEC unit is, it most likely would be there, if at all.

Inverters are not standard. It would be a separate unit usually connected directly to the battery. Depending on size would have rather heavy cables going to it.
Can you contact who you got the van from to check if they had one installed?

We have a Dec 2011 built 17.56.2 Expanda with a rooftop Dometic B2200. It's not a inverter air con though.

You wouldn't be able to run an air con from an inverter on 1 battery for too long- probably 15 mins! And it would have to be something like a 3000w inverter. So it comes down to what you want to run - eg charge a laptop or run a microwave... I have a small 'can' inverter to charge our phones with and then a 3000w inverter to run the microwave - and 2 100 batteries. Solar panels on the roof to charge the batteries when free camping.
