I wonder how much Ford will hand over?

If I was in the market for that style of vehicle, I'd be looking at the Ranger over the Hilux anyway.

The mines must buy a stack of Hilux's. I see they are top selling in their segment but I don't know too many people buying them anymore. All my tradey mates are buying Rangers, Bt50's and Amaroks. I'm sure I will get a bite:fish2:. Seriously I think there are more Rangers and BT50's on the road.

That's coz the rangers are cheap, and after having mine, ya get what ya pay for. If I get another dual cab, I'm pushing for a hilux.

This comes to mind when I hear dual cabs referred to as trucks.

A mate bought a Ranger recently and had loads of problems like radio not wanting to turn on, head lights wouldn't turn on, brakes needed to be re machined, the front right shock leaked, and had a CV joint replaced all before his first service!

I had a Lux before my Prado, never had one problem with either. You might pay abit more for em but you don't get the headaches!

I have always been a toyota man with a current hilux and rav4 for the wife, no problems, and yes paid a bit more.
I get 600 kms from a tank of fuel, with a 2250kg tow rating.

My brother recently brought a new ranger, a bit cheaper, no problems to date, gets about 860 kms to a tank, and a tow rating of 3500 kgs, he brought the ranger because all the local farmers on the properties around him have got them and are happy.

If I was in the market for a new one , I guess I would also consider ranger . But I do love my hilux.

I know there are Toyota lovers just as there are Ford, Holden, Nissan etc, etc, but just looking at the specs and features of the Hilux I just can't fathom why anyone would buy one in the private market these days (commercial I can kinda understand)
Lacks power, torque, fuel economy, towing ability and payload.
It's also more expensive.

And Ford know this, hence the promotion

Sounds to me like there are a few lemons out there but I am very very happy with the BT50. No probs so far. Better than my Hilux in every regard/spec. BUT, I would never say a bad word against the Hilux. It was still a great machine. I will be very interested to see what they release in coming years...

Coca Cola fleet supply some regional reps with Hiluxes. I am happy to drive a V6 SR5 and it has not missed a beat clocking up 100,000kms in 2 years.
I must agree they lack specs. When the paperwork came through it had a price of $62K on road including canopy. They have gone down in price since 2012 I guess.

Toyota are a premium product that demands, and gets, a premium price. Like Mazda did 15yrs ago. Like Mercedes did a while back.
Toyota have always underpowered their vehicles. And that results in them lasting much longer and holding resale better than most. Check out the used prices. Toyota also dont cut the throats of their customers by discounting the hell out of them.

I never buy new anything but do buy SH Toyota generally over other products for the above reasons.

But hey, gotta say I would love the power of some of the newies!

Toyota is a great product, they make a terrific machine, it is their dealerships I have an issue with. They are of an attitude of "it is a Toyota, that is the price. If you want to buy something else, then there is the door." I tried to purchase one before leaving my last company as I felt that is what I needed and didn't even look at anything else. When I rang the rep that dealt with us ( we had 15 company cars, all Toyota ) and all she could say was" you want it when?. Don't you know we have a waiting list?" She openly laughed that I should expect that I could have one within a couple of months, let alone be wanting a fleet discount. I am very glad that I didn't persist as who needs that kind of an attitude when handing over well earned dollars to overly confident sales people with a supposed mortgage on " the best you can buy" so deal with it.

I drove all of the usual suspects before settling on the BT50 and I chose it because I was truly impressed with it when comparing feature for feature and quality feel.Sure I have been back and had some 20 cent nylon cog thing in the a/c fixed a couple of times that is a standard problem with them, but only had to put up with an annoying click now and again is all. It has never let me down in the two years I have had it, pulls the panda like a train, is comfortable and the dragon likes to drive it, which is a bonus. It wasn't the cheapest, but it also wasn't the most expensive either. I was treated with respect, got what I believed was a good deal and drove away like I had got my money's worth.

There is a lot of inane prattle spouted about which brand is better and it incenses me no end to see stupid stickers like "Toyota or Nissan recovery vehicle" on the rear window of anyone's truck. If it is reliable, it is confortable, it is reasonable value for money and you are happy with your purchase and not left feeling like a wood duck when you drive away, then it is a good vehicle and fit for the purpose to which it was intended.

After 20000 and 3 months on the road I cant complain about my Pathfinders performance other than shes a bit heavy on juice if you sit on the speed limit. On the way have seen a broken Territory (Ayers Rock), Ranger (Kununurra) & BT 50 (Denman). Im not counting the broken Commodore as it was at least 15 yrs old and the Millard it was towing probably twice as old. The Territory was stuffed but both the Ranger and BT 50 apparently were simple fixes once they got to the dealers.

And that part is Toyota's advantage, the number of Dealers and availability of parts almost anywhere. If the Hilux had a higher towing capacity or the L/C dual cab some more creature comforts I would have gone that way. My closest alternate Ford Dealers are Alice springs and Mt Isa.

I don't get the comments above saying the Hilux is more expensive than the Ranger. Currently in my research the SR5 Hilux is cheaper than the XLT Ranger and the Ranger is a higher specced vehicle IMO.
Also regarding Toyota attitudes with discounts we used my employers national fleet discount on our 2008 Prado and had delivery in 2 weeks however we were lucky in that the colour/engine/transmission combo we ordered with a major factory option was on the water coming into the country as Toyota stock (not dealer stock). Our saving was around $7,000.00.

Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 manual = $53,490 driveaway. Plus a $500 bonus during this promo if you buy one.

Toyota Hilux SR5 manual = $56104.50

A bit over $2600 cheaper (plus $500 more)

If I was looking for a ute, and didn't need to tow anything bigger than a box trailer I would have to look at the Hilux, you just have to wonder how they can discount them to their current price now, same as Pajero's?

I have a '13 prado, '12 cruiser ute, and an '08 HiLux and love 'em all! The cruiser is heavy as hell on fuel though, would not like to paying for the fuel in her! It doesn't even feel the van though, probably pull the bends out of the Lachlan river i reckon ;) The Hilux is the most reliable vehicle i've ever owned, and the Prado is well on its way to following the lux.

And as @PhilD said, the service back up is a huge strong point. My inlaws tow with a Touareg and well..... lets just say life is awful lot harder driving an exotic breed when it comes to needing things fixed. Bites them every time.
