I recently sold my son our 17 ft expanda which was fitted with leaf springs.
My new journey is tandem with independent suspension.
when sitting empty the van sits on the bump stops. I have looked at other jaycos with independent suspension and noticed that they are all different in their seating.

The dealer in brisbane was a little vague and said not to worry about it ???

Has any one experienced this lack of travel in the system ?

The seat belt webbing to stop shock absorber over extending is a worry also

cheers GREG S

Hi Greg, that doesn't sound right. So what are the springs doing if it is sitting on the bump stop empty. Who were you talking to at Camperland?

G'day @Greg Swain I have a 17' Journey and live at the top end of the coast. You're welcome to come and have a look at mine if that will help. I have had no trouble with the suspension
thanks chart rock . the suspension may not be a problem ??? BUT it does sit on the bumpstops .
I run 50 lbs in the tyres so the ride in the van may be severe on corrugations . To date i have only been on the blacktop and travelled about 10000klm

Rusty the guy doing handover said it was normal when i questioned it at the time.
I have looked at every j tech suspension during my travels and noticed they are all sitting differently re the bumpstop .
The van sits same height , mudguard to ground as other journeys But mine sits on the stops .
The journey does not tow as well as the expanda .The journey seems to wallow and change direction easily.

Check what the axle loading is on the vans compliance. Then if you have a vernier measure the diameter of the spring wire and count the number of coils. Go to a dealer and look at a simalar model and then do the same. That'll tell if they have used the correct springs.

For a 17 I guess it should be the 2660 axle set. Pretty sure ours sits of the bump stops a bit but they aren't hard bumpstops like on cars they are more cushion stops and designed to be in contact I think.

If it's changing direction while towing the wheels may not be aligned ? You can check basic alignment with string and a level. If one wheels pointing out it will tend to want fight each other and push side to side.

thanks for the advice. I slid under the van yesterday and discovered that the bump stops are very soft and no doubt are there for controlling the compression rate.
I also noticed at the dealers that they do sit at different lengths depending on model.
the journey 17ft was the same as mine .
SO storm in a teacup

cheers GREG
