Hey all,

Just curious how far people open there awning's when popping there pop-tops.

Dealer told us best opening a few feet, otherwise in closed position it will stretch the awning a little.

What are others doing ?

Will be watching answers from others for this as we have never opened the awning when popping the top and had no probs with previous van.

I just flick it to open, remove Velcro straps, release lock and it pulls out what it needs. Tried to lift once with the switch at closed and the roof wouldn't pop up(either that or I was strong enough!). As DRW said open one end at a time. Also find when putting it down I have to drop front first or roof doesn't line up with latches.

I can understand why the dealer said it may stretch the awning one end as it is pulling out harder just on one end. Best to roll it out about 1/2 mtr or far enough so that you can open the door (if not open) but don't tighten the arms, then when you are lifting the roof, the awning can move back and up.
We always rollup the awning first and then close down both ends at the same time as I find the latches line up perfectly and the awning neatly rolls up the last bit..

When popping roof, drag it out to clear the door, no more than a metre. then right out when roof up. when closing the reverse, roll it up to about half metre then drop lid, try to get strap towards middle of runner so it pulls in evenly not baggy one end. Had problems with roof not dropping evenly and catches and latches not lining up, might try that idea of yours Glen, dropping both ends at once.

about 1/2 metre. seems to make it easier to put up. have no issues with the awning. be careful you don't put too much sideways pressure on your roof otherwise you can pull the roof and struts out of position and potentially cause the roof to fall off.

Same here bushman, we roll out about a metre before popping roof, have to because the back roof latch scrapes the awning scratching the vinyl, and the same on pop down, must leave rolled out about a metre or can't latch rear latch. We have never noticed any difference which order we pop the roof, always aligns up correctly. Barney
