As a volunteer fire fighter - when we arrive at a site we always identify an emergency assembly point, or if at a park we familiarise ourselves with the location of the evacuation point/s, extinguishers and fire hoses. Also ask the kids to repeat the location they go to in the event of an emergency to reinforce it. This is in keeping with the CFA Fire Safe Kids messages taught at school too.
Just because the caravan is a "mobile home", this does not mean we do not have a fire plan. Also, do you have a fire plan when you go to remote sites or national parks?
We have also done a fire drill for the van - just in case the exit is blocked, what do we/they do? Get them to repeat it back and practice it a couple of times. I do draw the line when we say push out the window or cut you way through the bed-ends. (That reminds me - I have to put the utility knives back onto the bed-ends.
Anally retentive, but just a good habit!
