Hi All,
We purchased a 2009 16.49.2 privately which did not have the flys on it.
We then purchased the flys seperately and have managed to attached them with the press studs however we are after some instruction on how it attaches for pack up.
We think that it hooks back up on to the hard lid in some way but I thought I would ask here to see if anyone had some photos they could send that show how and where it attaches for pack up. I think the rubber hooks have something to do with it.

Any help, instructions or photos would be great.

thanks

G'day JoyD and welcome to the forum. Sorry I don't have photos of how it goes back up but it is fairly simple. When the bed is back up undo the press studs on each side leaving all the studs connected across the back. Fold one side in and bring the press stud with the loop attached up and connect it to the stud on the lid nearest the van. Do the same on the other side and it should be ready to close the lid.

I hope this makes sense.

I knew I was doing it wrong:frusty:.......we were shown on pick up but couldnt remember first time we set up........great question and thanks for the answers:tea:....so just to check I have it straight.....the screen sits between the bottom of the bed and the hard lid when packed up? For some reason, I thought it went in with the canvas

how do you fix the studs ?

I have recently purchased a 16.49.1 It came without the external privacy screens. After our first trip we diciede that these were required, so i bought the screens over the weekend and was interested in how the studs are fixed to the underside of the hardlids. thanks

G'day newbie and :welcome:

The press studs under the hard lid are screwd in with phillips head screws that are recessed into the press stud.

stowing privacy screen

Hi guys,
Like some i just used to throw privacy screen on top of canvas and close until i realised what studs press studs in each corner were for.

To simplify i thought i would add photo's to show how covers are stowed for travel. hope this helps. ( blue tarp is my version of a cheap water proofing of bed and works a treat)
Only detatch side studs - Leave back studs connected and fold up bed

Fold corner in and clip to stud on van end of cover

Hi Guys,

I kept if very simple (matches my brain) by using the privacy screen as a template for cutting the trap. Got the wife to sew hem border on tarp.

Got a do it yorself eyelet kit from Big W. Put eyelets in tarp where press studs were on privacy screen. Looped small elastic through eyelet so I could put press stud in elastic loop before clipping onto hood cover. (see photos)

I also put eyelet on bottom corners to hold down the same as privacy screen.

Tarp just sits on top of bed canvas when not required. Only takes 2 minutes to pull down if rain appears. This was as a result of the bedding getting wet on our first trip which has not happened since I made these.

I look at and spoke to some canvas places and concluded that besides being a little costly it ment that you had to have one or the other up at one time. We wantaed something cheap and easy and quick to set up and it works

Put Eyelets in to line up with Press studs on screen and made small elastic loops

Put loops between/over press stud before attaching screen to bed cover

Cover sits on top of canvas when not in use.

Now that's just brilliant. I'm guessing because the tarp is inside the privacy screen, it's not loud when the rain drops hit it? How did you overcome the problem of water coming in along the hinged edge?

blueoval, have not come accross the issue of water leaking in along the hinged edge YET???. It survived some very blowy weathet and rain recently of a trip around Yorke peninsular. We are planning on a trip to Qld in late may so will certainly see what that can throw at us.
Several things worked very well for us with this which was it cost very little, it weighed very little and I did not have to find extra storeage space for it as it stows with the privacy screen.

Have only been first time caravanning since Sept 2011 and have learnt heaps from this site and like minded people in caravanning. We think we might like this caravanning caper.

Thankyou all for the positive feed back.

Great idea to keep the rain out. The only problem I have is that Prestige in Geelong screw the shade cloth to the hardlid and don't use studs!!!!

I have been thinking about replacing screws with studs anyway to allow me to totally remove the screen if required.

Once again a top idea!!

Cheers
