We have stayed at a few now

Starting from north to south....

Gold Coast holiday park
Pros... Exceptional pool with great waterside, cabanas, individual poolside bbq areas, poolside licenced cafe/restaurant (note only 2 main meals on menu as they changd them daily, jumping pillow, bmx track, salt water creek for kayaking/fishing, pedal cart hire, modern amenities, new ensuite sites have lovely ensuites though the sewage outlets were difficult to reach so most ran them into the garden. We had an ensuite site last time as other half was commuting to brisbane at 2am so we didn't want to be disturbed by inside shower. Exceptional service (needed printing and fax services daily), help getting on to sites etc. bikes/scooters allowed, massive playing field down the back tennis and half basketball court. 2 mins to movie world and wet and wild, 5 mins to dreamworld/white water world. Takeaway/small supermarket/tavern 1 min drive

Cons highway noise not so bad on new ensuite sites or grassed big rig sites but you notice it. Watch some of the ensuite sites are there are some bigger than others. We fit fine on e5. I think e3 is bigger.

Treasure island holiday park -

pros great park with (from memory) 3 pools one with water slide, paid mini golf, onsite cafe (pretty sure) jumping pillow, creek for fishing kayaking, life size chess board, pedal cart hire, near harbour town shopping/movies/food

Cons no big open spaces, our friend went at Xmas and there was a bike/scooter ban (not sure if new rule or just holidays). Not sure if there were ensuite sitez do would need to check that

Tallebugera tourist park

Lovely park on the creek/beach. Great pool with water slides, separate kids play pool, Separate pool for laps etc. we stayed on an ensuite site 2 years ago and it was very nice. Nearly new at the time. Scooters/bikes are ok, kids playground. Netted swimming area in the creek, across the road from flagged swimming area (calm water), walk to surf club, real beachy feel. Paid pedal cart hire

Cons sites near the road can be a little noisy but ensuite sites are fine, can feel a little crowded at peak times.

Billabong big 4 tweed
Another family friendly park. Indoor toddler play area, playground, two pools, one with large beach area, hire kayak for the billabong, hire pedal carts, we stayed on a grass site which had lots of space and more shade than normal slab sites. Bikes, scooters were fine.

Cons the plane noise is loud though there are night curfews ( seemed to be stopping around 9-10pm the again from 5-6am.

Friends have stayed at broadwater and like Jason really liked it

Great reply Andrea. Living on the Coast, I never use the cravan parks so it is good to hear a reply from someone who uses them. Same from Jason.

We've stayed at both Gold Coast holiday park and tallebudgera three times each now over the past three years. We go to each for different reasons... Gchp for theme parks or if we are commuting for work... Tallebugera for the 'beach' break. Forgot to mention tallebugera creek is lovely to kayak

Eta, to be honest... If I wasn't somewhat local to the Gold Coast, of the parks we've stayed at, I'd pick tallebugerra for the 'beach' experience.... Or another one along the beach area.

We stayed at Main Beach and Broadwater tourist parks over January. Main Beach was just brilliant, immaculate amenities, opposite beach and surf club, few minutes walk to Tedder Ave (lots of cafes and restaurants) & the visitors and staff were very friendly from start to end of stay.

Broadwater was just a little too far away from it all, the drive into Surfers was bumper to bumper every time.

Hope this helps

We r currently at main beach As well. Has everything u need as mentioned above. And if ur looking at playing up in the surfers nightlife only 10 bucks in cab fare from the party strip.

I can recommend Tedder Ave for a good feed " la roma" is an authentic Italian restaurant. The food was delicious. We r on our way south along the East coast so keep in toch if u like. Our next stop is in Lennox Head. To avoid the crowds at Byron yet not far enough from there to do a day trip :)

We stayed at Broadwater too in July found it great. We didn't think it was too far away from things, and had no issued with traffic etc. (Maybe the time of year???)

Only problem we found was we had a site hard up against a park cabin and we could hear every little noise from them (especially when they had a party in there with 6 families till 2am). On the flip side the view was spectacular.

They have the pool and jumping pillow, quite a good camp kitchen and a community get together type thing a couple times a week.

We've been to the Gold Coast from Melb for the last 4 years, and booked in again for this year.

The first year we stayed at Tallebudgera CP in June / July, 2nd and 3rd year Tallebudgera in Sept holidays, 4th year, Kirra Beach CP in Sept Holidays.

I really love Tallebudgera, right on the creek with a nice beach, walkway under the Hwy to the surf beach, great resort pool for the kids, Burliegh Heads National Park walk just over the bridge. What put us off in the end was during the Qld Sept school holidays the place is absoloutley packed! Not just every site full, but every inch of grass on each site is full. As soon as the Qld school holidays finish, it empties out again, and is quite pleasant.

We stayed at Kirra beach CP last Sept holidays, and although the park was still fairly full, the sites are a more spacious and there is more open ground.

As for travelling and stops, my preferred route is to leave Bacchus Marsh on Saturday morning, travel via Shepparton and the Newell Hwy to Forbes for the first night. Second day via the Newell to Goondiwindi. Final day via Towoomba along the freeway thourgh Ipswich and Logan, onto the Gold Coast Freeway, arrive at the Caravan Park early to mid afternoon on the Monday.

Then we take a week to come home, trying a different route each year so far.

If you are looking to go to the Theme parks, look out for the MyFun VIP tickets. $99 per head gives you unlimited entry to Sea World, Movie World and WetnWild. Last year we got a discount as returning customers, and also took advantage of a 4 for 3 deal, 4 tickets cost us $270.

We stay regularly at Boyd's Bay Caravan Park which is on the tweed.

Has its own boat ramp providing access to the tweed river with a netted of swimming area for the kids.

Nice pool with a big slide that can get your heart racing if you don't hang on :)!

Nice big sites, friendly atmosphere and only 20 minute drive to surfers but far enough away to be out of it.

If you are into seafood there is also a bunch of trawlers around the corner where you can get fresh prawns straight from the trawler.

Looking at heading up there in September 2016.

What would be the best park to stay at? Considering I have a 12 and 15 year who have no interest in jumping pillows and water parks. Would prefer to be closest to the beach, cafes and the like.

At this stage I'm thinking Main Beach Tourist Park .

It sounds like, with your kids, Main Beach CP would be the go. Close to the surf and some cafes nearby although in the expensive snooty area of the coast. Tallebudgera Creek CP may be another option and, while Broadwater CP is a bit further away from the surf, Southport shopping is a bit closer.

Would try and meet up except we will be at the Flinders meet in September.
