Got me baffled. Our fridge has never lit on gas using the piezo ignite, I just light it with a bbq clicker. Lights first time this way.
Recently I got a new ignition lead and fitted. Now have great spark but still only lights about 10% of the time. Ive blown the gas line out and cleaned the jet(still lights first time with bbq clicker flame). Quite often I get a poof of flame(big orange flash) only to go straight out. Any ideas?

Hi
have a look where the spark is arcing to, it should arc down onto the burner. if not bend it gently with a screwdriver, but take care the white section is very brittle, i usually try to bend it at the mounting screw point halfway down the white ceramic sheilding with a small shifter to get a nice fat spark down onto the burner, after a bit of adjustment it lights first click if the gas is present.

Get a gas fitter to look at it. The cost is better than blowing yourself up.

Just received a industry magazine/brochure in the post. It actually shows that someone did some work/installation and it caught fire.

Source of image Plumber Choice www.plumberschoice.com.au I hope they don't mind me reproducing their image, I have done so to illustrate what "could" happen if someone not trained works on their own fridge. This was from a diy install, but it only takes a leak and this can be the result. Please don't take offence to anyone who has given advice, it was just that I saw the post about the fridge not lighting and I got this in the mail. More than likely the fridge not lighting properly may be a minor problem, but get a Gasfitter, qualified service technician or Jayco representative to look at it if the information/operating instruction do not solve the problem.

The fridge in the image below was less than 2 hours old. A bit hard to see but I am sure you can see the message I am trying to get across.

Cheers.

gotta agree with you there ..... i'll tell you a story

we had a nice bloke come in and buy a camper, "no i don't need a hot water service, my blokes can fit one, they are all diesel mechanics"
i remember him asking me where he could put it, told him where it would fit and away he goes with his brand new van.
2 weeks later he's back for his first service saying don't touch the electrical stuff as his blokes are changing things. ok no worries we all looked at it in amazement and scratched our heads trying to figure why they changed so much (boss even took pictures). but followed instruction and left it alone.
2 weeks later he rings and said can i come down and get a new setek fitted as his "blew up" Boss teed me up to replace it on a sat morning. Sat comes around, no sign of him, no worries, i still got paid for being there :)
monday had a picture of his van burnt down to the chassis on the way to us in the local paper ..........
tried to blame us and failed miserably as he instructed us not to touch his work. oh well ..... but we did sell him another van ..... with all the options fitted :)

so moral of the story is, only stuff around with something you know what your doing.

I'm still surprised when a van comes in that a auto elec mate has fixed for them and can't understand how he should know better but still stuff up a simple 12v circuit
