Hey All

Thinking about our trip next year (will create a proper thread for this) but what are everyones thoughts on taking the Expanda on the Tanami Track?

We are already doing the GRR (Gibb River Road) as part of the trip but there is not a lot of information out there about the Tanami.

Some people say "no way" some people say "depends on the conditions and recent weather" and others "yeah should be fine" :)

It used to be known as the one of the worst roads around but in recent years it has supposedly become a more reasonable track/road to tackle...........

I remember originally when I asked Jayco about the GRR about a year ago they advised "yeah sure just make sure you drive to the conditions" but as we know the "Outback" models have their limitations.

It would be a huge shortcut for us to get to Alice Springs and Uluru from Kununurra otherwise it would be around the long way, which is fine if that ends up being the consensus and better option.

Not concerned about the Prado at all, it will eat up this track, more around the Expanda, all the usual mods for the GRR and other roads are being progressed and thought through around dust proofing, sealing, glueing, underbody protection etc

Anyone on here taken their van on the track in recent years?

If youve done the Gibb you can do the Tanami as we did a few years back , the roughest part was between the two mines where either companies didnt want to look after it also going out to Wolf creek crator wasnt the best .
As always drive to the conditions and watch your tyre pressures

Yeah completely agree @BUSH PALACE happy to take an extra day to do it if required and take it easy

Thanks @crackacoldie I thought I saw somewhere they sealed some of it, I will be coming from the other end so it will be an awesome sight to finally see the black stuff after being on it.

I also know now that they have shut a few places down along the road/track so fuel will be more limited along the way, looks like a second spare for the van may also be required for this trip now, was hoping to getaway with it for the GRR but to be cautious the extra wheel might be required.

Might need one of you to let the other half know that we can't take the coffee machine now as the second spare is required instead :eek-53:

Will be researching it a lot more now to get a full picture of what we would be in for so will post up some more info in case anyone is interested.
