Just rang Jayco and they want $450 for the pleasure of it!!!!!

Surely there are cheaper options about.......bunch of shysters!

Any ideas about better options?

There are other accredited jayco service providers but for each service there is a detailed checklist of what they are required to do to maintain warranty and keep the up the maintenance of the van.

That's why it's a fixed price and it includes checking bearings, anodes, torquing wheels, breaker checks etc. I think the list is somewhere on their website. The non dealer price was slightly less expensive.

We've had several done by an accredited service provider and were more than pleased with the extent of it and the fact that they picked up items such as the PLV which we didn't even know was faulty. Other items were also detected and warranty sorted out directly with jayco.

So I don't agree that they are shysters! They provide an excellent warranty so it's only reasonable to expect that the van be maintained to that standard.

I think you're being a bit harsh. Sorry!

Seems you are right. Local dealer hardly cheaper.....better off staying with the dealer in this scenario i think.

Maybe its just my anxiety eminating from the fact ive neglected to have the service done for quite a while.....

I retract my comments!

Good on you. It sounds like it will be $$ well spent.

Have your own list of things you want checked, done etc when you take it in. It's a lot easier than doing it yourself.....at least it is for me. Others are far more capable but it doesn't hurt to have a full service done ..good for resale as well.

As said I found their warranty excellent and one of the reasons the Jaycos keep their value!

I just had my 21 serviced at RVGO in Sydney who are an accredited dealer.

Cost me $600 but they do a lot.

Thats a comprehensive service listing, I wonder what the price of the new bearings was ????
Like the other listing the price is a lot for what is really remove wheels and replace, the rest is just tyre kicking so 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs...............and by this I don't mean to sling off at anybody just that I find the cost rather high.

Yep.

I baulked a bit when I heard the price but, with all the new more complex stuff they have on board these days, I realised I didn't know enough, didn't have the tools to do it, and that it was a bridge too far.

We'd done basic maintenance years ago on camper trailers but couldn't handle the expanda maintenance. I'd rather leave it to someone who knows what they're doing and will warranty their work.

I must admit I thought it was a bit steep, but these guys have always done a fantastic job for me and I trust their workmanship.

I also compare the work they do vs a car dealer service and what that costs.

In comparison the van service isn't bad value.

I can understand folks having to get it done for sure, price for the thing just astounds me..............I got a quote once supply and fit rear springs and shocks $480 for the gear $450 for fitting,......I laughed.

Both types of servicing are overpriced but a neccessary evil...............................though I do advise after every service, van or car check your wheel nuts are actually done up, it is very common for the servicing experts to miss the final turn...................fair dinkum.

I also think the service prices are a bit steep but if not confident I would advise people to bite the bullet and get it done. Paid for our first service while it was in getting minor warranty work done but have done the second one myself after "securing" a copy of what was included ;) The only things I couldn't do were anything that required diagnostic tools as per @Bellbirdweb 's list... The list I "borrowed" didn't mention anything about diagnostics?

Totally agree with you there @Drover and just ask @bigcol 's sister about it :o

@mfexpanda did our own bearings on the panda took a coupleof hours greased replaced bearing and not expensive. We only did the first 1000km with jayco and serviced the van ourself it would have travelled at least 20_30000 km no problems

The diagnostics had me scratching my head :indecisiveness:.......I think they mean a multi meter to check connections maybe , it sounds techo though..........have found folks that the only time their van gets checked is at service time, no wheel nut checks, no rolling around underneath looking at lines, checking spring shackles, even found one fella who didn't even know where to jack a wheel from let alone where the jack was..............................mind you at the moment I'm seriously thinking of getting a mobile fella out to adjust the brakes on Big Mal as crawling underneath and stuffing around on the gravel doesn't appeal to me, might just ring for a quote so i will get inspiration to do it myself.:D

My basic one is start at the front and check everything till I get to the back.

I reckon it doesn't matter who does stuff like bearings, checks brake lines, tightens wheel nuts etc etc etc......as long as it gets done!

If you can do it yourselves, know what you're doing and have the time and tools that's a bonus!

Who carries a torque wrench these days? That's one item I decided was the bridge too far.
