Hi there. Got a question. I just came back from a trip and i plugged in the main 240 power to the van. Climbed under the van, and when I grabbed hold of the chassis I got a small electric shock go through my fingers and palm. This made me let go quickly. Thinking this was not right I grabbed another part of the chassis and the same thing happened. Small tingling shocks. (you'd think i would have learnt by now).
I then touched the outside checker plate and the same electric shocks happened. Van is out of warranty for 2 months now. But i don't know how long this problem has been there. The power must go straight to the power fuse board then the fridge/micro/aircon, RCD switch, is this correct. Where is the van earthed from, the tyres? Anyone else had this problem. I even plugged the van in another outlet and same thing.

cheers

That dos'nt sound safe, you should ring your dealer cos 2months out of warranty or not, you watch them come running if you tell them your getting electric shocks of the van, and I heard jayco are pretty flexible with just out of warranty's

I work in the electrical industry this is something you do not want to muck around with. In our industry any electrical shock warrants a trip to the doctors for a check out no matter how small. So please have your van and yours self checked out.

Yeah probably one item that I think calls for an immediate expert to identify what's wrong.
I would think Jayco may still honor the warranty if you asked for something like this.

Stupid me. Ive been out there checking it again and it is not happening now. Your right. I know I should get myself checked out for any shock thank rojoberry. BUT is it possible to have built up static electricity from the 7hr road trip and I think the electric brakes dragged a bit But yes still need a HV sparky. Lucky bro inlaw is one. And will be ring Jayco. Thanks

If going to contine touch testing (i don't recommend that you do) use the back of your hand only. Muscles contract with electric impulses. The van should be earthed via the earth wire in the power lead / point. Your brother in law is definitely the best option.

If you've got the lead for your van plugged into an RCD protected outlet, the RCD should have tripped from what you have explained. If not, it is more than likely static.

I did my school work experience with the SEC and saw an old linesman do this with the power lines in the street!!!!!! WT!!! So i went into the building industry instead...

Sorry, you probably misunderstood, if you have plugged your lead in to a power point on your house, shed, etc, and that power point is protected by an RCD, it will trip, not the one located in the caravan.
 Yer sorry. It might have been from the small electric zaps i got……or was it the :very_drunk: Id had before i read your post. Power point is protected :embarassed:
