We purchased a '96 Defender 130 crew cab just before christmas as my vehicle (the wife still uses the D2 discovery as her daily driver) Which has been our tow vehicle since we purchased our 14.44.4 in late 2012. We have started towing the panda with the Defender the last few times we have been away, while it is not abounding in power it tows the panda very well holding 100ks on the highway comfortably, fuel economy is on par with the disco, the ride without the van on the back can be rough at times but once the van is on the back the ride is transformed to the point i would say the ride is better than the disco, could have something to do with having an extra 30 inches in the wheel base. We are also finding that having a canopy over the tray on the ute is a big plus.

Have the same engine in a d1 once going it sits well but my van is the 17.5 ob weighs 2.3 empty yours should be lighter and probably well matched If you don't mind the agriculture of the landy they grab hold of you that's for sure
