Hi all,

hoping someone on here may have an idea.
Came home today to our house alarm showing a low battery indicator So I need to replace it.
I am aware that it is in the main control box, but I believe it has a tamper switch that will set the alarm off instantly even if disarmed.

has anyone on here replaced theirs or do we need to have it serviced?
Would be a waste of money if I have to get someone out to do it!

the Alarm is a Clipsal Homesafe alarm.

Thanks

BJ

I thought you were fine if the alarm was disarmed.
however....
In my mind, if you were concerned about that, then switch the power off at the outside power meter box.
then go and remove the battery.
the maximum time the alarm could sound would be from the time you open the alarm box to when you disconnect the battery.

Thanks Brad.

I would have thought so as well, but they have the switch as a tamper switch so no-one can mess with it while off. The in-laws have the same unit and they had a faulty tamper switch in the siren box that went off even though the alarm was disarmed.

Problem is I have to open the box to get the dimensions of the battery. The neighbors might love me!

Your system is the same as the one I installed at home and a few other places. Cover should be a tamper switch but it is also possible that a bridge could be installed over it, but highly unlikely.

You have two options:

1. Punch in P(mastercode)E, followed by P(installercode)E. Then you are free to open the box and change the battery. Press P then E when you are done. Your master code may not be your pin code usually and is four digits. Your installer code is usually six digits.
Or,
2. Open your box and go for your life to change the battery and close the box again. Only is a 2 minute job and when your done just go and put your code in the key pad to silence the alarm. After this, arm and disarm the house to clear the memory.

Got the replacement battery from Jaycar this morning (thanks AndrewC).
Replaced no problems. I didn't need the installer code to do it - just needed the master code which I set (thankfully).
