Hi all, getting the weber out of storage and cleaning the grill plate how does everyone else do it?

I have got the grill plate looking like new but the crevices there is caked on grease which looks like its decided to join the metal in unionship like its been welded on :)....

Have been at it with the steam cleaner and now soaking it in detergent with hot water but there is so much of it!!!

Is there a product that breaks it down that people recommended?

I would be cautious about putting oven cleaner on any enamel on the Webber I got some on my other BBQ lid at home and it marked it I just leave my Q on high for half an hour and then clean it with the wire brush

Yep, Wire brush for me too. Best $9 I spent was on a collapsable bucket from BCF - The BBQ Bucket that the wire brush is dipped in

I thought the internal surface of ovens installed in houses were predominantly enamel.

Yep I do the same get it really hot. I leave it on high for 20 or so minutes then just scrub with the wire triangle brush. Often I crank it up after cooling then give it a clean once the meal is finished. (not always though ) It does get cleaned before every meal though.

I use the supplied wire brush, dipped in water and then rubbed on the grill while still hot. This cleans it up a treat!

The guy who we bought the Q off said not to clean the lid, apart from wiping with paper towel or similar. He reckoned that cleaning the lid with soaps, oven cleaners etc can "taint" the taste of food cooked on the Q. So that's what I do....

cheers

Build up just adds to the flavour... ;)

Every once in a while I give the grill a hit with the high pressure cleaner, epsecially on the underside where the drippings go through. Then just use paper towel to get it out of the bottom section.

Don't like chemical cleaners, doesn't smell right for a few cooking sessions afterwards.

I ended up using two things -

1) Steam cleaner

2) Elbow grease

I found the steam cleaner was really good in loosing it up and then elbow grease to scrub it off.

I decided against any chemical cleaners as I don't like the idea of the taste sticking around.

It was a bit of a fiddle with the steam cleaner but it had a wire brush attachment on it that helped alot!!!!

I have had the BBQ for about 3 years now so it was cacked with grease all over.

I had to strip it down, lid off, the left over igniter parts out, sides off etc etc just so I could clean it properly.
