G'day everyone,
We picked up our new expanda 16-49-4 today. When we got it home we noticed that the spare wheel at the front in the Drawbar was only secured by a bolt going down into the frame with no real preventative measures against theft. Is there product on the market that would keep our spare from being taken by a thief?
Secondly the spare is sitting out fully exposed to the sun is there a cover that goes over the spare to protect it from sun damage over the long term.
We are very excited by our new toy and look forward to experiencing the fun of being caravaners.
Regards,
Bass man.

:welcome: @Bassman

I can't say that I have seen anything for the wheel lying down that allows you to lock it.
As for covering it, won't a standard wheel cover go around it somehow?

Standard wheel cover of the right size for sun though i've never worried have thought about it though.

If you have twin gas bottles, there's no way that spare is comming out in a hurry anyway.

Speaking of gas bottles, why dont Jayco use brackets that have the padlock facility, most other manufactures do.

Welcome @Bassman, if you really wanted to you could buy some lock nuts (1/2" UNF) probably come in a set of 4 but you could put them on your van as well. Just replace the bolt on your spare wheel with a stud and then use your lock nut. Like others have said spare wheel cover works well...I had one on our 16'.
Cheers.

Talking security. I see the new 2014 models have "Crimsafe" on the door. Probably overkill but should beef up the door.

Kill two stones with one bird, and just put locks on your gas Bottles that way they can't steal tyre without taking bottles out . Problem solved.... Btw I like the Rottweiler idea image.jpg
