So let’s share, what was your worst camping moments , with wife, kids the boys etc. ?

I’ll start

When I first started dating my wife, long distance (Me Sydney, her Brisbane). We did a camping road trip from Bris – Syd. Anyhow pulled into Byron late one night and went to the caravan park, pitched small camping tent and both proceeded to be mauled by mozzies. Ended up in town at 2am to escape the god damn things.

Next morning tent was blood ridden with squashed mozzies, camped next to mangroves (didn’t see them at night), anyhow next 3 nights were in a hotel in town. Been hard ever since to get her camping.

We were heading down to Geelong for a few days, and while there the missus wanted to go to Geelong's training session the next morning. We didn't get away till the evening (I was not pleased!!), and after being made stop on the way for dinner and a bit of casual shopping, we finally got to the park at around 11.
Out comes a brand new Aldi tent, with three zip-in rooms, never before set up, or even taken out of the packing, and the ground was rock hard trying to belt the thin-as-wire pegs in. The kids, still awake at that time, thought the steam coming out of my ears was hilarious and get sat in the car laughing at us. I hate being late anywhere or disturbing others, and I think I might've stayed in a very grumpy mood for a few days after.
Thankfully our friends in the site around us said they didn't hear us.
The tent zip-in rooms were ripped by the time we left a few days later.....

With our first camper in tow we headed to Riverwood Downs near Gloucester dog was with us, only a pup then, had a few good days before heading over to Foster/Tuncurry. rocked up to the CP and check into ensuite site, as it was a corner site decided best way to set up, lady on next site comes over and asked where we got the dog from as it was the same as hers, turns out was the same breeder.
Anyway after setting up get dog out of car, old bloke on the other side spots the dog and said " hope that bloody thing isn't bark all night" well! that got the wife off side straight away, and I had trouble biting my tongue, so to which I politely replied " no it sleeps inside and if you don't annoy her you wont know she's here" I also added if your that worried about dogs, what the hell are you doing in a pet friendly park.
Last night we were there I wondered off to the ensuite late for a shower wife and daughter asleep and bucketing down rain, I come out of the ensuite and slip on top step, BANG! down I go, on the wet concrete in the rain, didn't want to yell out as ol' mates van backed on to side of our ensuite, after 5 minutes managed to pick myself up and get back to van with my ankle throbbing not to mention a few other bits, decided to dope myself up 0n panadol and see how I was in the morning rather than call Ambos to park and get checked out, nearest hospital was 40 km away a Taree, didn't know that till next day.
Managed to pack the camper up in the morning, went to hitch up... FLAT BATTERY,, WTF ! Wait 1 hr. for NRMA then drove home the 4hrs (luckily left ankle and auto car) before seeing a doctor, fortunately only very badly sprained ankle.

A couple of summers ago setting up a tent in 45 degree heat at Wee Jasper. My wife suffered a massive migraine and was almost passing out (I forgot to pack Panadol).
Abandoned the camp at 10pm and drove her to Yass Hospital, 60km of dodging wombats and roos, I ran over the rabbits.
Returned after midnight to find tent broken in by a marsupial rat which had chewed holes in the wall to enter and munched on numerous food items.
Spent the next 3 nights chasing the rat out of the tent, each time the prick would chew a hole in a different position. Plus I had moved the food to the car and left food outside nearby, which by the way was untouched. :mad-new:

Upside was this incident formed part of the brief for my caravan purchase! Thanks rat! :peace:

Winter 2008 my wife gets a job down on Port Macquarie so we organise a place to live with a real estate agent all no probems sell the house pack all our stuff in storage pack the two cars and dogs and off we go.

We stay over night in Coffs then into Port we go call the esate agent and we just get silence, he says sorry forgot to call you but the house you were going to rent and paid the deposit for the owners have decide they will be moving back in!

Now port had very little to rent then actually nothing at that time that would allow you to have two dogs so what to do well we went to BCF and purchased a cheap tent and a blow up bed and headed to stony point caravan park still waiting on funds to clear from the house sale and we couldn't get our deposit back until the following week we were broke.

Well we set up the tent turned the radio on made a coffee or two then a huge bloody storm rolls in see pics I didn't tell the wife that there was good chance we could end up being levelled anyway the storm came we parked both cars beside the tent to give us a bit of a wind break and hankered down, bloody hell we nearly took off but in the end we were just bit soggy.

So that night it starts getting cold real cold I have never been so cold from what we were told it was the coldest series of nights recorded in PMQ history and we were in a tent and from warm QLD don't be rude just don't get this cold thankfully we had both our dogs to keep us warm but that bloody mattress transferred the cold straight through our bones worst part was getting up and having to go to the toilet in the middle of the night we also made one other mistake we set canp on a nice bit of level ground but the trucks going down pacific highway kept us awake as well lol.

In the end the people that ran the park took pity on us and offered us a cabin cheap until our money came in we said never again will we go camping but the funny thing its one of our fondest memories as well there was a lot of good that came out of our week in a tent camp willy in taught us a lot.

never say never....

Now its time to explore this country with our kids but in a VAN!
