Anyone from the ACT bought new from Victoria? What's the registration process? Presumably Jayco still put compliance plate on Van and registration authorities go by the figures given therein? Grateful for assistance to my first post.

Moxley23, welcome to the forum. Yes, the dealer will register the van for you. Pretty sure you can take the van to your state and transfer to your state (if you really want to that is), once purchased.

Cheers Pace.

Welcome Moxley23. Jayco issued us with a 30 day travel permit, which means you can bring it back home, I does not allow you to travel after that and no plate supplied. For Nsw I had to get a blue slip, weight cert and then pay for 12 months rego which gave us a plate, plus I think the plate cost us $30!

Cheers.

Better still find a relative in Victoria have it registered in their address and save yourself big $$$ on rego each year copared to NSW/ACT

But otherwise they can issue a permit to tow it home then have it registered in home state.

Main thing I'm worried about is having an adverse payload outcome in registering in ACT. Read about a transfer working against buyers favour somewhere. Would be good to save on rego too.

Thanks for welcome all.

Jayco supplied a weighbridge ticket with my 16.49.4, I would not hesitate to by interstate, Page Bros in Melboure made the whole process easy, arranged the Vic roads permit, the savings are there if you want to travel.

Welcome Moxley.

I live in QLD and bought in Mildura. Mildura would issue a permit to travel but we could only travel the fastest route home or else insurance would wipe us if anything happened. Permit was 30 days.

QLD required the van be taken to an inspection site for gas and weight etc to ensure match of the dealers paperwork. What a joke and rort on fees for them checking. Its brand new for christ sake!

Cheers

G'day mate, I live in ACT and very nearly bought a van in Coffs Harbour (ended getting a great deal here instead btw - email me if you want more info). Process is you buy new van unregistered, but with a permit. Of course it has the Jayco vin plate where-ever you buy it from. When in the ACT you have to take it (a) through the Dickson motor registry and (b) get a rego check done by an authorised inspector - ie. same process as registering a second hand one from interstate (actually you do b first come to think of it!). Will cost you about $90 altogether in inspection fees and about $350 for rego. The very lovely Terry at Qbn did a much better deal than I could get elsewhere however, and a bit more convenient for my long list of warranty issues!
