Finally I've managed to get around to posting this after doing a 4 week business trip to China and Thailand.
So I took my new Weber Q 220 on its maiden voyage to Halls Gap over the Melbourne cup weekend.
It worked a treat on steaks, buffalo wings, bacon and eggs, and even a double roast of pork and lamb.
Anyway, on the Sunday , after cooking up the roast. I shut the lid of the Q and let it cool down before packing it up for the night.
At about 10 pm a windstorm kicked up and it got pretty bad. While I was pulling the awning in, the wind managed to lift up the lid of the Weber, and throw it open with enough force to tear it straight off the base!

As you can see , one hinge has come away at the lid, the other at the base.
I contacted Weber and sent these photos in, so let's see what they have to say.
Interestingly when speaking to customer assistance, I told them the lid had broken off. Before I mentioned the wind, she asked me if the wind had caught it. I guess from this that I'm not the first to have had this happen.
Hopefully Weber will come to the party so I don't have to get into arguments such as whether an outdoor appliance is actually fit for purpose if it can't cope with wind etc.
I'll let you all know how I go.

Yeah, what a bugger, hope they do something for you. I might start to put the cover over mine at night just in case!

Hopefully they give you a new one. Did the whole thing blow over and then the lid flipped back?

Worse case you could grind off the broken bits and just turn it into a kettle. Put a handle on the top. I am sure you could also fabricate something.

No, it didn't fall over, but I did have a cast hot plate on the stand shelf which would have weighed it down a little.
Nothing from Weber yet......

So I heard back from Weber yesterday.
Their response was even though they do not consider it a warranty issue, as the BBQ was new they will replace both the lid and the cookbox no charge, I just need to pay their repairer a call out fee of $88.
More than happy to pay the $88. Thanks Weber, great customer service.

That's good service. They are popular, they were literally walking out the door of Masters yesterday.

My BabyQ lives with my Expanda and at the beach this week I noticed that ALL the campers around me now also have Q's of some sort (the last to sign on brought his FamilyQ in the back of the ute!). I wasn't the first one, but the word quickly gets around...and when we're all turning out roasts, pizzas, or great fish meals, the burnt chops/snags don't quite cut it.
