Have just returned from our first trip in the 2011 Sterling - Perth to Carnarvon via the coast and then back inland for the wildflowers. Yes, we are very happy with the van even though there were a few issues we found & are now fixing.
Updates done prior to trip...
  • Have installed a separate battery charger and is hooked up to the van batteries and also the breakaway battery.
  • Installed my solenoid tank selectors - saves climbing under the van to switch them over.
  • 2000w inverter
  • Generator box on back bumper
  • MPPT
  • Diesel Heater
Yet to be done..
  • Plan to put in 2 grey water tanks (1 for the sink and another for the ensuite) as there is quite a distance between then 2 areas. The sterling has about 350mm between the floor cross members, so this restricts which tank to use.
  • Will also install a thermostatic hot water divert er (Redwater) - it diverts the cold water back to the tank until the water is hot enough ( ~40c) as this will save a lot of water when we are free camping.
  • Waiting for a solar panel to arrive to be installed on the roof.

Have installed the solar panel on the roof - ran the wires down the cavity at the front RH side. The controller is in the front boot.
Installed the 2 grey water tanks. Waiting on the Hevco to add to the pipe from the shower. Purchased new very light weight tubing for the grey water when not going to the tanks.
Installed the Redwater device in the hot water pipe just prior to the T for the Shower and basin, and yes it will reduce water use when we are free camping.
Received the replacement parts to fix the sliding door Rollers.
Added a Ferrite core (snap-on choke) to the radio to improve the reception.
All good now for our next adventure...

Moved the 2x100amp batteries to under the bed - reducing the download on the hitch.
Purchased a 12v fan from Aldi - great as it oscillates and can be charged from the 12v outlet. A lot cheaper than the last one I bought which was a fixture - new one can be moved around.
Waiting for a fan to put behind the fridge to keep the air flow during summer.

All worked well on our trip to Dwellingup/Nanga Brook campsite.

Installed the fan behind the fridge.
Have extended the mudflaps to reduce the possibility of under van stone damage from dirt roads.

coming soon:
Waiting on 4 external 12v LED lights with PIRs as a way of deterring overnight "visitors". Will install one on each side, front and back walls.
Discovered on our last trip that the 2000w inverter can not power the installed microwave. May test a replacement less power hungry one.
Will test a TrailerAid Plus to ensure they will lift a 245/70 R16" wheel high enough to be able to change (if we have a flat).
