Build time

Just when I was starting to get excited about a new caravan (finally!) I have just been told my van will have a mid-June delivery.....seriously? 5 months? I was led to believe around 3. Is this the norm? I understand with the new models rolling out this year the build time slots are probably filling fast but I don't know if I can wait that long lol. Even though we don't technically want to use it until the mid-semester holidays. How long did you have to wait? And yes, I've read the horror stories of those sent back again (*holds hands over ears*)

OUCH, are they building a Van or a House
The new model will be out by the time you get it :D

But it is probably due to the shutdown they have for Xmas, 5 months does seem excessive though
but what can you do (second hand might be a option)

Our 16.49.4 last year was similar if we wanted everything we selected ie complete build as opposed to the one which is 3 quarter built and available in a month.
We waited and are are very happy we got the thingswe wanted.

Ours was 6 months from order back in 2009. We were told they do a run of a certain model, then re-tool the factory and run the next, and so on. Considering they run off the line every 10 minutes, 16 hours a day, its a lot of vans...

Ain't it wonderful how you forget the pain of the wait and smile when you know you got most of the deliberations right.

Just another hurdle in the quest for future great experiences.

Ours was ordered in May 2014 and delivered late September but we survived....just...and have now almost forgotten the annoyance cos the van is right.

We just made more lists and tripped over the piles of camping gear waiting to be stowed.

And read this bloody forum....and spent more money!

You're a brave lad!

You could be a professional upgrader.....buy one at the beginning of each year, set it up the way most people want it, then sell it on to those undergoing the dreaded wait.

Then do it all again.

The outlaws have had a number of vans over the years, done their bits to them, then sold them a few years later. Never lost on any of them. If you had the $$ and patients to do the first couple, could be a profitable little business.:greedy_dollars:

Off the the Melb show end next month ;) he he I think we keep the 22 for a while unless something bobs up. Or we win Tatts.. Seen a few 4 bunk vans recently for sale most 26' to big
We lost a little on our 17.58 I did not get a great deal to start with.. Hence hindsight I knew better with the 22.68

Order one....any one that's popular...and sell before it gets delivered, or soon after.

Or do a bit of checking so everything works properly....I reckon there's a market there for someone always dropping into Jayco!

Only problem is they'd have to be paid for .....I'm financially challenged and lazy so I'll hand over the business to you!

On a serious note, that's obviously the approach taken by dealerships but they get it wrong some of the time.

They seem to have a surplus of the little camper vans with floor stock readily available but little available in expanda or Starcraft......hence the long frustrating wait. They may need to rejig their floor stock orders to get more client satisfaction.

It would be interesting to see what a buyer would be prepared to pay to get their choice faster.

Camperland at Brisbane told me the same, they wouldn't sell me the demo model Expanda, only sold it at the end of the year.
and that's why we brought at Mount Gambier they had one with all the options for sale. We where not sure we wanted the extra weight with a outback as well. The one at Bayswater had less options cost more and they did not want to sell it unless they could replace with another one.
We looked at the 23 basestation and was close to getting one they said the same

We didn't see a floor model when we ordered...they didn't have one so must have sold it by May....had to go on diagram and a much older example to physically assess the size. It was ex rental and about 5 years old so you can imagine the wear and tear.

That's why I thought they turned them over quickly.

We saw an example of our model when they unloaded it from the truck a month before ours emerged from the process.

depends on the Jayco dealer it seems @Dobbie our 17.58 was brought when the plans where released. We could of ordered in a month earlier and got a March one although they had no idea of the plan changes :) Did not see one in the flesh until March show when they first made them. Like you we looked at the 16.67 which was close and checked plans to see if beds where bigger.

Originally ours was 6 months but changed vans 6 weeks in so that stretched out to 7 months.
I would order before all the shows start making the wait longer.
Taking her on her 1st outing next week:D
