We are after some information regarding the road conditions for the above journey. Has anyone travelled it recently? Also what/where is there to see along this track? And any other information you can provide for us. We will be taking the SC OB in September and I know road conditions can change but we are just after some general information, particularly if you have taken your van along it. TIA

Hi @Joanne . We got back from there on the weekend and had no worries dragging our 20.63.1 along the tracks up there apart from losing all our plastic pipes somewhere on the Birdsville track on the way up. Was surprised how good all the tracks were considering a week ago they were all closed because of the rain. There is always something to see up there and the tracks either side of Cameron's Corner were my favourite of the trip.. Awesome sand dunes to go over and salt lake crossings. Make sure you try a steak at the Corner pub too. I'd concider going back up there again just for another feed.

Yes, via Tibooburra for lunch and an overnight stop at Mount Gipps station (don't recommend any driving after dusk as the roos and goats are pretty thick. I covered everything that I thought would get hit and i suspect the pipes came apart at the joins and ripped off as thats where they all now finish. Very little glue showing so who knows how far they were pushed into the elbows. The van went back to Jayco yesterday to get the floor fixed and they offered to replace the pipes under good will but I declined and will fix them properly when I get it home in a few weeks. That being said I did miss 1 elbow to the front water tank that got a hole in it and the end of the cap to the drain on the rear tank broke off the rear tank so we had no water when we hit Birdsville. Luckily I discovered the caps are standard 1inch plumbing caps and I used a copper gas elbow to replace the plastic one. By the time id done the repair in the car park of the hardware place 3 other rigs had rolled in with the same issues. All up $6 for the cap and elbow and 15min to change.

Hi Joanne, we did the trip last year in September to Cameron Corner, we came from Broken Hill to the Corner then to Innimincka, we never protected any of out pipes but did have a stone stomper on the front of the van, not sure if this had any impact on the pipes not being broken or not and i also extended the mud flaps. Our van then was a 14.44O/B with simplicity independent suspension which gave is a bit more height. Great trip and a beautiful part of the country. Our only regret was that we didn't take longer to do the trip.
Have a great trip.

Thanks for the reply. We fitted our Stone Stomper this weekend and have protected the underneath so fingers crossed all will be well. We are now looking at taking a bit more time around the area rather than just driving through like we thought we were going to do. So looking forward to going. Hoping the weather will be kind to us too :)
