We did a trip up to Cameron Corner, across to the Strezlecki track & up to Innaminka. Over to the dig tree where we camped overnight (fantastic camp spot), up to Haddon Corner, & on to Birdsville, last September. Apart from the roads around Innaminka ( atrocious) the roads very very very good. We were at White Cliffs just before Easter, & the road from Broken hill is mostly hwy. Our outback expanda is still like new after these trips. Only advice is to cover all plumbing & wiring. The stones will tear them to shreds ( a lesson we learned the hard way with our old Windsor Rapid).

Roynrel,

We are looking at heading to Haddon Corner from Birdsville Dev Road. What were the conditions like? I have heard that there are a couple of dunes on the final access track to the corner, did you manage to get the van in or should we drop it off first (16.49.3ob)?

The overall plan is Brisbane - [Innamincka - Cordillo Downs - Birdsville - Haddon - Charleville - Brisbane] so interested on any wisdom that may be useful from you or anyone else in the know.

Thanks in advance.

Xixau.

The road into Haddon corner is good. We towed our 17ft outback expanda over the 1st sand dune, then left the car & van & walked over the 2nd dune to Haddon corner. Only a short walk. We had planned to leave the van before the 1st dune, but with a run up we crossed it easily. We could have tried the 2nd dune, but decided not to risk it.

This photo ( sorry it's upside down) was taken from the top of the second dune, showing where we left the car & van. The 1st dune is in the background. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response roynrel, sounds like we will probably do the same. Probably unhitch and drive, after all you have to at least have the car in the photos even if you cannot have the van. :anonymous:

Photo looks great.

G,day, we did the Birdsville run this time last year, we did melbourne, tailem bend, hawker, maree, mungeranie (recommended) to birdsville, drove big red, then as the road to cordillo downs was closed due to rain, we drove back down the track and crossed the strezlecki using walkers crossing track to innaminka. bloody awsome! was it tough enough, well we have a swift, only dropped a cupboard face fell off! down to tippoburra after that. our tow vehicle....great wall twin cab turbo diesel :) best bit was getting into innaminka camp ground during the 10th anniversary of the Bushmaster club8-) they couldnt believe where we had been with what towing a WHAT!

one bloke told us we wernt allowed to speak with his wife...our total cost of van and car was less than he had spent on the accessories on his 200 series sahara cruiser!

Drop your tyre pressures , I went to 28psi in the van, drop your speed by the same percentage is a good rule.

Cheers , Scratcha

Ours is a outback which i have underslung the axle - If your thinking of coming to the corner COME ALONG youll do it , just drive to the conditions and take your time - its not a race ..but when you get there youll have a BALL !!!!!!!!
