Location: Bingara NSW, Fossickers Way - Free Camp on banks of the Gwydir River.

Info: Number of free camping areas on river between Bingara and Copeton Dam...No facilities, self contained so all the usual things about rubbish etc. most run grey water around tree's .

Pets: Yes but horses are sharing the area so keep control of dogs.

Pool: Yes, in town......or swim in river.

Cabins: No but at Caravan park in town.

WiFi: No

Mobile/TV: Telstra 4G, Optus ?.......poor TV reception, Sat good.

Facilities: As of 2026, water and dump point has moved to in front of pump station, just past the caravan park opposite the Hospital, 3 dump stations and 1 water station, water is a dollar coin for 300lts .................................. Have to be best dump/water point on the country.

Comments: River level can change quickly if water is released from Copeton Dam for irrigators, so camping right on edge level with river is not wise, plenty of area for camping, quality depends on who gets their first, second area across river at back of Golf Club is nicer and can be less crowded. Great bakery and butcher in town, save receipts to drop in box at Info Centre for the town to show how much free campers spend to council.

The Dec 21 floods here didnt do much damage, sites near willows swim hole a bit gouged but otherwise all good.. River is flowing nicely at present (new years)........lots of grass on common so bring your snake stick..

Drove through the camp sites on wednesday and have ddogs a swim, top spot. Supprised not many campers around. Bet the mozzies are bad at sunset.
Went up to the lookout, very steep drive but worth the view.

We rolled in on Thursday, no bity bugs other than the odd mossie, just the right amount of campers I reckon still the fire makers who want to smoke everyone out and its summer.....................

Couple had their van and tow vehicle swept away a few weeks ago camping on the river bank.a few years a go we were there when a mother and daughter drowned when water was released. How is the rubbish along the river camping areas
used to be like a dump in some spots.!

Never had a problem with rubbish at various camps here, after fishing comp its around though....Some camp on very low spots by the river here with maybe 6 " freeboard, a very grassy shelf is a favourite, its very nice but you have no chance of escape, as most park with no exit other than reverse....I prefer at least a metre high, a quick clear escape route which wont go under and always watch the weather up stream and the dam.... If its getting rain upstream I get set up for quick departure . Basically the plan on any river camp, especially out west as no warning at all usually.
Many just dont have any idea of the dangers..

Recent stay in OCT 23, still a great spot, sealed track to bank above camp area held up well to earlier floods, New toilet facilities at Water and Dump point near swimming pool ..... Bakery is still brilliant in town....

The Gwydir Council recently upgraded the Dump and Water Point here at Bingara, moved up the road from old spot 400mts to a turn around in front of water plant, it would have to be the best designed one I have come across, dump and water point in a middle island with a lane either side so vehicles can enter from either end , no drama for busses or MH with fixed dump tanks and no need for U turns , has 3 dump units and is absolutely brilliant ....
