Sometimes things happen behind the scene that none of us know about. This happened last month when late one night I could not log on to the forum. No big deal, @expanda is probably doing something to the system. Sure enough, logged on next day with no problems so just thought no more about it.

Talking with @expanda two nights ago he mentioned in passing that we nearly lost the forum. Apparently we are on one of a number of servers (number 7 in a list) and servers 1-6 went down. Eapanda monitors this constantly and receives emails daily notifying of backups but he was concerned, and on checking found that, even though he was being told backups were being done, they weren’t. If number 7 had gone down with the others we would have lost everything. Expanda promptly organised a full backup and then number 7 server went down. He now has organised two backups, one Brisbane and one Melbourne to be done every 4 hours.

Expanda has not been on the forum a great deal lately but that does not mean he is not working on it. He spends a lot of time keeping tabs on the system itself and is happy to leave the day to day running of the forum to the members and the mods.

Many thanks to you @expanda for all the work to keep the forum running.

Super post @chartrock and well deserved. Another thing to also note is the lack of advertising on the forum. This forum isn't free to run I'm sure, and I certainly can't recall paying a subscription notice. Therefore not only must he spend a crap load of time, but I suspect a bit of the folding stuff must also be contributed and appreciated by us all.

Yup.

Interesting that a few just join to flog something or other.

but...it's a great forum for sharing, finding answers, and good bantering fun so I'm sure we're all appreciative of the time and effort that goes into keeping it going.

As they say...."I love it"

As a previous forum owner I can say that sometimes a lot of stress and heartache can happen behind the scenes.
No provider is perfect and if ever you want to change providers then be prepared for the site to go down for about a week (might be faster nowadays)
The expense is not massive but it is still enough for a small holiday.
Any time you are in Perth @expanda I will be more than happy to shout you a counter lunch and a few beers for your troubles.
And if push comes to shove I am more than happy to contribute.

I also would like to thank the moderators as it can be a painful task keeping the rowdy ones in line.

A simple Well Done to those behind the scene keeping the show on the road may not be enough but Well Done anyway but also thanks to all the members who make this such a great place to visit....................................Had my favourite Jeep site crash a few years back and nearly lost the lot, thankfully a few had done some back ups and a archive site was found which had heaps so after a couple of days it was back up running.....

Thanks for the call out but all in a days work...

I think I'd be looking for a new host if they can loose 7 servers !!

Great work @expanda for keeping the wheels oiled.

Massive disk failure guess it could happen to anyone.

For me it is more about how they react to the situation than just hardware failure so to speak.
