Time to create a thread showing off my pride and joy along with the mods I have already done and plan on doing in the near future.

I brought this 2010 14.44.3 Expanda form @chartrock just prior to new years after my wife decided it was time to move away from our Camper Trailer into something with more accessories and hard walls. Needless to say those who know @chartrock will know well how he and his wife had looked after the van and how he had added many mods to it.

My first mod was to put a mesh basket in the area at the front of the A frame (got that idea from here:), you can just see it in the pics) where the spare tyre sits as the tyre had been moved to the rear bumper by the previous owner. This will be very handy for carrying my yabby and crab pots along with their ropes and floats when they are wet.

I have added an Australia Wide Annexes front porch which slips into the ant-flap bars to add a bit off length to the awning and I also brought some Coast to Coast shade cloth walls, the van came with a full Australia Wide Annex but we will probably never use it as we enjoy being outside not inside.

Then I had a gas fitter add a bayonet about 300mm back from the front of the van for our Weber Baby Q and brought a 3 meter hose off a member on here @Ligedy which allows us to cook under the front porch or if the weather is bad we can move it back into the awning area. In the bottom pic you can just see a white rectangle just behind the front stabiliser that is where the bayonet is with my $1.40 bayonet cover from Bunnings (a door stopper, got that idea from here as well:)).

My next mod will be to add a post to the A frame for my out board motor, this will bolt on where the jerry can holder was (now removed). One good thing about the C/T was I could carry my tinny on the boat racks it had but now I need to mount it on the roof of the Pajero. The current tinny is too big for that so I brought a 3.49 meter Stacer car topper which is purpose built for vehicle roofs, I will be mounting it on the roof with a Rhino Rack Side Boat Loader.

My 2010 Pajero has had a suspension upgrade, it has been lifted 40mm and has EFS Elite shocks all round with EFS standard coils and Firestone high pressure airbags on the rear. It tows the van no worries with this set up but I am going to add Electronic Stability Control after reading through many posts on this site for what it costs I believe it will be well worth it.

Down the track I plan on upgrading all the drains (as I have seen many do here on this site:)) to allow the sink to drain away quicker and I want to add full storm cover on the bed end. The bed end has a storm cover on it but some water got through whilst we were on the shakedown trip so I will put a vinyl cover on that slides into sail track.

Anyway that’s enough for now, thanks for reading and I will post pics as I do any further mods.

Another small mod I had forgotten about was this one. During our shake down trip I was telling the missus what @Drover had done with mirror tiles in his ensuite and how I thought it was a great idea as having a shave in the van (if required) without a mirror would be a real pain.
The next day we headed of to the shopping center as I needed to find something I for the van aerial and another box of beer and she needed to find everything and anything as she does, when we met back up she had 3 of these for me.
20150129_132105.jpg$10.50 later we now have a mirror in the ensuite. 20150129_132333.jpg

Ok I’ve finished the outboard mounting bracket for the A frame although this is not its final position (I forgot to take a final pic:(). I have cut the bracket off that was for the jerry can holder as it was going to be in the way of my WDH so the outboard mounting bracket will come across to the other side of the A frame forward of the jerry can bracket (mesh basket looks good hey!!!!:)).

I also put together a Rhino Rack Side Boat Loader whilst I was home this trip, boy oh boy this was a task and a half but it works great, can't wait to start using it:fish2:.

I then gave the toilet cassette a good clean and did the flush tank following the info @Drover had put up, thanks mate:first:.

I checked the anode for the HWS but it was as new, I think the previous owner must have not long ago replaced it:first:, oh well I will check it again in around 12 months time and I already have the new anode sitting in the shed.

I scored a 272kg EAZ-LIFT WDH that was still in the box and had only been used once for half the price of a new one but I didn’t get a chance to set it up before I ran out of time and had to fly back to work.

When I get home we are off on our second trip in the van so I am looking forward to seeing the difference it makes to the ride.

Hi, welcome to the 14.44 OB owners group! :first: On our last big trip to NT, had to drive over a dead roo, ended up bending my basket so trimmed it back so the front edge is now the cross bar of the old tyre holder if that makes sense. By the way, where are your gas bottle(s) now? Cheers

That does make sense thanks for that @Marv_mart I may end up doing that. The gas bottles on this model are in the front boot, the Expanda is a 14.44.3 which is the 2010 model with the bed coming out the rear and a shower/toilet combo.

I looked at a couple of 2012 models which have the ensuite across the back and the bed coming out the front but the lost bench space with this model was huge. We decided that the 2010 layout would suit us better and we were lucky enough to find one that was an Outback model as well.

Ok, the 14.44-5 OB 2014 model has the front bed and the shower and toilet at the back.
See my Panda thread for the mods I made. Cheers

My latest mod is only a small one but very affective;).

When the wife and I go away we always take CAN's, there are CAN's of coke CAN's of coke zero CAN's of diet coke CAN's of this CAN's of that CAN's of XXXX CAN's of Jim Beam and the empties soon take up a lot of space as you CAN see (the purple bag in the pic leaning against the Weber stand in the background is half full and it is only early8-)).

Not anymore the wife found a CAN crusher in the Mitre 10 store at Kilcoy when we went to town to get some more CAN's whilst we were away last week. So whilst I was having a CAN I got the cordless drill out and I screwed it to the out board motor bracket.

Voila instant space saver for little outlay:D.

BTW I can’t talk highly enough of the way the van handled with the EAZ-LIFT WDH on, much more stable towing and excellent improvement in the overall ride, anyone considering one of these systems should go for it you won’t look back.

Playing catch up, looking good Axl I used heavier mesh on my basket and a mesh lid using a bit of reo bar and 2 hinges tacked together, haven't worked out a catch ATM so okky strap is the go, if you put a thin sheet of alloy/plastic across the front of your basket it will stop a lot of rocks and mud getting amongst your stuff.
I'm thinking of putting a sticker next to the Jayco badge on mine stating it's "The Expanda Tardis Model".......bigger on the inside.

The latest mods,

LPG gas detector hard wired to battery but switched so I can turn it on and off as it suits.

I am so sick of the time the sink takes to drain and the fact that when it does drain the water comes up into the shower. I was looking at ripping out all of the plumbing and replacing it with PVC pipe and as few elbows as possible when I came across this mod in another thread.

90 cent bucket and a 12 dollar tank outlet fitting from the big green shed and presto no more draining issues. I cut the hole about 100mm up the bucket so it will hold 2 or 3 litres hopefully eliminating the chance of it blowing away.

I went to buy a CO detector from Bunning's but the ones they had on the shelves were in the process of being removed as they had been recalled, I'll grab one next time I am there. @dagree I wanted the same one you had posted a pic of but this is the unit that was under the recall, might be worth looking into mate.

Nothing on Bunnings or Family First website....... will ask the question during the week as there will no doubt be a need to call into the Big Green Shed at some stage soon ;)

They didn't elaborate and I didn't ask why but I just wanted to give you a heads up. No doubt these sort of things come out in batches and the fact you brought yours some time ago will probably mean a different batch number. They had some of the bigger square Family First models there, they cost a bit more but my main concern was they were a lot bigger and heavier and I didn't want it to fall off whilst on the move.

Might be pics on my thread but I just bought a new drain for the sink, a straight one and added an elbow further along the hose and it now drains fast, had to lay out $5 and my Special build greywater tank stops any back up and will allow my drain to work up hill at those sort of parks that have them.
My LPG detector is hard wired in but no switch always on then I don't forget to turn it on, couldn't see any need for an O2 sensor though.
