I currently have a roller door on my shed but have to drop bimini/clears/rocket launcher to get boat in or out. Also my wife can't get a full caravan which she would prefer and has a pop top . Can't make opening higher due to thickness of roller door when open. There is plenty of height once in the shed to have the bimini/clears/rocket launcher on the boat and/ or pop top fully set up.
What I would like to do is take roller down and put some barn/swinging doors to access the extra height currently occupied by the roller door roll. I can't find anything on the net and I am not very dyi.
Any engineers/fabricators on here or anyone done something similar please feel free to offer your advice!
Can i have swinging door? Or sliding like an aircraft hangar? On acreage so space not an issue

seriously if it were me I would contact the garage manufacturer and ask for a quote to increase the hight of the entire garage, the whole shed insnt that expensice so lifting it a bit shouldn't cost the earth, should it?

DRW we explored that option before we extended the shed to accommodate the wife's Expanda in Jan 2014. Only the original builder showed to give a quote (3 other companies never showed to quote) and he just laughed and said it would be cheaper to try and sell the original shed and buy a whole new shed. From memory a 10 x 8m shed with 3.3m walls installed with slab was going to be around $30000 and suppose you got 5k for the original was going to be $25k. As it was just to extend the shed 3m installed and slab/earth works was $7000. When you consider the original 7m x 7m x3m shed only cost $7000 ($12000 inc slab and erection) in 2004 there has been massive increase the cost of materials/labour over the last 10 yrs!
The reality is we don't need to raise the whole shed as we have 3m at the wall and 5m in the centre. We can comfortably pop the lid on the Expanda once it is through the door even with roof mount air con. My wife is making noises about a van with ensuite which I would prefer a full van rather than a pop top with a skirt around top of ensuite.
Looking the portal frame end of the shed I would imagine that it can be done, just need to find someone who has done it or knows how to do it.

Ok...I have shed envy here. Lol
In all seriousness though I had a similar issue with my shed. I ended up getting a garaport extension on the front of the shed. It was basically the roof and a few pillars. It was right next to my fence on one side and I built a timber wall on the other. This solved our issue. It also gave me heaps more shed space. Will try to find a photo for you.

Do you have enough room in your garden to extend the shed and make a 3 sided carport for the caravan ( full size) also our neighbour's don'tknow how legal it is jacked up their shed raising the roof to get a motor home in, not sure how it stands up with engineering compliance either but may be worth investigation

@Still_dreamin I hear you, we're on the sunny coast and we have a problem with our floor tiles, brand new house moved in in October and still waiting for help, having aluminium gates fitted this week (fingers crossed) that's how long it took to find someone to do it, 5 grand which i recon is way too expensive and the list goes on and on. I'm from a family of builders, the only reason I am not is my old man and I never really got along lol but I have to tell you they are starting to give me the tom tits with their to busy to turn up crap and quoting over the top pricing.

You say you are acerage. Do you have room at the rear to install another door and make it drive through.

No can't make it drive through. Don't have the access at the back (sloping block) and doesn't overcome the height issue. Happy to reverse it in just need more height for a full size van.

Hey I like the look of this. I assume it is ok to drive over the bottom rail? Do you know how it copes with dirt in the track?
Closest I have seen to a solution so far
The ones Ive fitted don't have a bottom track they are hung on rollers from the top use a full length of gal angle on the bottom of the door that slides through a series of Nylon floor guides that get bolted to the floor, but must admit I have on occasion made my own steel guides and bolted them to the floor

The only problem I can see with the sliding door is the top guides may stick out past the side of the shed. On my shed the 2 bays with the sliding doors to overlap each other to allow access.

You just bring the rollers further in from the edge of the door that way the door can slide past the wall of the shed but the top track finishes level with the wall
