I have 3 weeks off after Xmas and have had this in the planning since January now it’s about 2months to go! We will head to Temora pick up kids then head to Mildura stay the night then head to Adelaide and stay a week at Brighton Holiday Park for NYE. We will check out the sights of Adelaide (any recommendations will be appreciated) then head down to Victor Harbour and then on down to the GOR and stay 5nights at Big4 Anglesea. We will stop and have a day or two in Melbourne then on to Ballarat (Sovereign Hill) then home. There will be plenty of free camping on the way. After 1week free camping on the Murray at Easter we are set up a lot better and know what to expect. I do have a few jobs to do to the van before we go like maintenance and some sirroco fans plus a grey water tank. Can’t wait to hit the road!

We did GOR a year ago and did it from Adelaide to Melb - was a mistake. We found it needed to be done the other way. The viewing spots were on the right side and generally on a bend so it was hard/imposable to pull over with a van on the back.

PS - I live just above spot 301 (Salisbury) in case of trouble

Hi Dogger, We do the Beachfront caravan park at Anglesea. Try for one of the sites in the H section. Easy walk out the back of the park straight onto the beach. The other way is a 5 minute walk along the river to the main shopping strip and cafe's etc (if you like Chinese food Roses is brilliant!!).

Friends have stayed at the Big4 and found the sites to be very tight and as with all big4s it was really noisy (was along weekend though). And it is up a hill and a decent walk to anywhere.

My parents did the Big4 at Moama (Echuca) last week and said the park was nice too when you are at the Murray stage.

Enjoy the trip.

Thanks for the offer. I knew it would be hard with the van being a popular area and I have expected to back track when the vans off, to see those things that we may have missed.

I looked at that park in Anglesea so I went on the ballot system and 6months later I got a “not this time reply”
And I am also counting down the days, can’t wait!

Suggestions for Adelaide
Adelaide Zoo - https://www.adelaidezoo.com.au/
Adelaide Markets - http://www.adelaidecentralmarket.com.au/
Adelaide Botanic Gardens - https://www.environment.sa.gov.au/botanicgardens/home
You could take a trip on the tram that runs from Glenelg to Adelaide

Why not stay a few days in Ballarat so you can get in a full day at Sovereign Hill - http://www.sovereignhill.com.au/,
you could also Visit Kryal Castle - http://www.kryalcastle.com.au/

We stayed on Torquay after our drive along the GOR - http://www.torquaycaravanpark.com.au/

Thanks @jeff for the tips I will research your tips on the weekend. I will definitely be spending a couple of days around Ballarat to go to sovereign hill. Is it worth spending 1or 2 days there?
