I wonder how it goes with a 3 tonne trailer/baot/van with the extended overhang?

I read about this on motoring.com.au. It seems that Japanese utes are really behind the Thai/Korean utes in size, power and torque areas. Be interesting to see the new Hilux also.

Funny that because they are all made side by side in Thailand, they are all together on the Hi-way heading south from Bangkok (and they are a bit cheaper over there as well;))

Yet they cannot get the resale of a toyota which has to be one of the biggest draw cards to buying vehicle other than reliability

Toyota and resale can be overstated at times, i went through the proccess when i bought my navara. I paid around $7 k less for the nav, its resale via redbook.com.au says its roughly $8k behind the hilux sr5 as of 2014. So all up 1k difference over the 5 years, im happy with that

That's why a lot of them were bending chassis, to much overhang and nothing supporting the weight, the other problem is people put maximum weight behind them and think they can still carry maximum weight in the tub

Toyota make a pretty good product whether it is a roller skate or a bus and all things in between. Unfortunately it also spawns arrogance in their sales staff and the conversation when trying to purchase one usually revolves around " mate, it's a Toyota, it is the best you can buy and that is the price, if you don't want to pay the money, get off my carpet and go buy something else - you effing cheapskate.". Or, " you want it when? You have to be joking, do you know how popular these things are? You can have one in 4 months and If you want a white one get in a queue behind BHP Billiton"

Well these aren't the exact words, they usually remove the expletives and smile wanly while they give you their version of these statements. Their eyes glaze over as they subliminally and mentally spend their copious flow of commission , not remotely interested in anyone else's point of view. No matter how good these things are, I am the kind of punter who votes with his feet if I feel I am being taken for granted. Unfortunately my blacklist is getting longer and longer as respect for me as a potential customer fades into obscurity. Pretty soon I will be riding a pushbike everywhere as the list of " never in a million years will I buy a "xxxxxx" continues to grow.

Having principles isn't easy :) oh, yes. and while I am being obsessively opinionated - I think the continuation into this model of the Mitsi's so called "J" line still looks naff. Kinda urrrrgly. I still believe they do this for economic reasons and just come up with a plausible engineering statement to justify it. The Triton is already on my aforementioned list of never in a million ....etc.etc.etc.

Although Hilux are still the best selling ute in its category, I just do not see it in the real world. I presume those sales are in the mines.

It's the changeover price that really matters, how much folding stuff you have to part with and while Tojo's are pretty good so are the others if you maintain them.
So easy to overload, ute's have maybe 600kg carry cap, subtract ball weight (200kg), couple of adults (160kg), boat, bull bar, 20lts jerry can, bingo.

It's bloody raining gotta go and dance outside.......................................
