We found a big problem at the back end of the van their is step from the bed end to the Luggage compartment and when you lay down on the mattress you know a big difference

It's common problem with most even our 4 yr old van, why they haven't sorted that by simply raising the cupboards under the bed to be level is anyone guess.:noidea:

Welcome to the life of sleeping in an expanda. You should find some things in the search function of the forum. Some members raise the storage area and buy a new mattress with the seam down the middle. A mattress topper may help.

Our new 16.49-4 rear bed is an absolute nightmare to sleep on, the zippered section is so uncomfortable.... Jayco replaced the original mattress as the zippered piece supplied was not wide enough and way too low.... The replacemnet mattress is now the right width but is about an inch too low still...I was warned about Jayco quality but this is clearly a design defect...I'm not sure a pillow topper would fix the zipper feeling and why should I have to pack two(2) pillow toppers to make these beds sleepable..... I shall continue to investigate a solution and will post if i ever find a solution.

New aftermarket mattress (zipper down the middle)and timber modifications to raise the front base above the storage area has been done by quite a few. Agree you shouldn't have to but that's the fix if you want to do it yourself. Use the search function, should get a few posts come up.

We had a bad mattress as described by others. Different height and density. We tried the mattresses in new vans at the Sydney Show and they were fine, so we made it a warranty issue. Local Jayco dealer initial resisted changing the mattress, but after some explaining they ordered another one from the factory. The new mattress was perfect, so different from the original. I thought that they must have had a bad batch, so I am shocked to hear the same complaint from 2014 models.

Maybe ask for foam, I think this problem is not as evident in the foam matress. I have foam with the wool underlay, so comfortable, love it.

I was told they took the foam option away a few years ago, but when i was considering upgrading about 12 months ago i was told you can still get foam , just have to ask. Not sure if this is still the case though.

We had exactly the same problem with a new 16-44-1 we bought 18 mths ago. After 'several' trips back to P/brothers it was discovered we had the wrong mattress for our model van. Once the correct mattress was sourced and a foam topper put on it, it became quite comfortable to sleep on. :)
