Hi All,

Just signed the dotted line to get the new poptop, should arrive late March.I'm moving up from a Cub camper to a caravan as i'm getting soft in my old age.

One question, I using a 2012 toyota Hilux 3 lt diesel to tow it, has oneone used the hilux to tow and have they used a WDH. I'm suspecting I wont need one.

I'm needing to fit a brake controller and monitor, any reccomendations on brands would be good too.

Cheers Wilko

Go Wilko. I tow with a 2008 hilux and don't seem to need wdh. I think my van would be heavier than yours. Brake control, go the tekonsha prodigy 3 off eBay

I second Relgates option for the P3 I am in the process of changing my controller from the Redarc to the P3. My work mate has one installed on his new Colorado and I had a go towing the van with it and I must say it was a lot smoother and it's so good to set and forget rather than adjusting up and down with the Redarc. Don't get me wrong the Redarc is small and can slide away into positions within a vehicle so effortlessly and Di the job but was so fiddlely and moody with the van brakes.

Anyway enjoy your new van when you get it.

Regards

Rob

Guy at store talked me down to the P2 Controller works great think the P3 has a few more bells & whistles but definitely wouldn't go back to a standard (Non Proportional) Brake controller, Quite happy without WDH with my 16 behind the Ranger but I do have airbags, also have a Reverse Camera which I have running through a Kenwood DVD Double din Head unit which works great

Welcome Wilko. Some of our resident experts have already set you right with the brake controller and WDH but I'm sure more opinions will come. Good luck with the new van and enjoy the forum, lots of great info here.

Congrats on the new van. When we got our new car in July we had th p3 installed. It is much better than our other one. We just asked our auto electrician for it when we booked it in. Also, while you mightn't need a wdh, it does seem to improve the ride and fuel economy for us. I think our van might be 4-500kg heavier though. Your caravan salesman should be able to advise on this when you pick it up.

Welcome Wilko and congrats on the new van! P3 for me also, I'm surprised the dealer told you that you need both for pick up, I know the laws are different in NSW but I got my blue slip without a monitor. I am all for safety but I think this law is crap as you can check state of battery with the press of a button before hitching up. My dealer was quite happy for us to drive off with brakes that didn't work properly, even after I told them....so what's more important? Anyway that was in Vic.

I also use WDH and imo worth while.

Cheers.

Welcome Wilco ...it's not about getting soft, it's maturing that does it. You'll find answers in this forum for questions you would never think to ask. Enjoy the anticipation of the new van and start making that list of mods!

Hi all,

Thanks for the warn welcome and advice, Ive fitted the 150lt fridge, roof top ac, 18.5" TV DVD, wind up aerial, Dometic diesel heater (D2) ext speakers, ext picnic table, gauges to measure water and Battery and outside shower. looking forward to modifying it in the coming months.

Ive noticed that whilst Jayco's are solidly built they can sadly leave pipes exposed underneath. Has anyone fitted or has suggestions how to protect them from stones etc.

Cheers Wilko
