14.44.4 and twin water tanks

Went and saw the dealer about the 14.44.4 outback today and when asking about the extra water tank he said it would need chassis upgrade does anyone who has the 2 tanks fitted to this model know if they had to have the upgrade done. This will be our first van if we go ahead with it.
Also how much room do you reckon the dealers have to move on the retail price?
The quote he gave me was retail only and included
Roof mounted air
twin tanks
120w solar pack
auxiliary battery
trig hitch
external shower and HWS
water and battery controller
privacy screen *Try posting a bit more so your post isn't boring*
extra gas bottle and bayonet (apparently the bayonet is standard on outback now)
12v water pump
wind up Tv aerial
chassis upgrade ?

Hi dice. I can't comment on the chassis upgrade as I have ordered a 16 foot model. Mine didn't require the upgrade though and I can't recall ever hearing or reading about it.

In terms of price it always pays to ring around a few dealers and ask for their best price. This certainly helped us when shopping around. They can always do better.

G'day Dice and welcome. :welcome: We have a 14' Outback and it came standard with the heavier chassis. Because we have the shower/toilet it has a second tanksn second gas bottle as standard.. I think they may be having a lend of you by saying you need all these extras at that cost. Definitely try other dealers even interstate ones as there is a Jayco runout sale on at the moment

I have a 3mth old 14.44.4 OB and I got mine with twin tanks (the second tank cost me $200).even the onroad ones can have twin tanks no problem at all. The chassis already have the mounting holes in the cross rail chassis members.
when you order twin tanks make sure they upgrade you 300kg payload to 380kg to allow for the 2nd tank (i had this also with mine).I think your salesperson is mistaken about the chassis upgrade.

I don't know your location but like chartrock said shop around. I did all my dealings with my dealer up in Bundaberg by ph & email and had no problems at all and saved alot of $$$$
I think the dealers have a fair margine to work with and the southern states are cheaper than up here in Qld.

If you have kids with bikes I would suggest getting the factory fitted bike rack on the rear wall ,it makes life easy with all that holiday loading.

As others have mentioned I would be shopping around for sure there can be a big difference inprice between the dealers. I have never heard of the chassis upgrade either maybe when/if you ring around check what others dealers say about it.

We just bought a 14.44.4 with a shower etc and it has twin water tanks, it all seemed standard frame wise to me. I hope that helps.

Yep definately having a lend of you regarding chassis, Outbacks already have the heavier duty chassis over the on-road model

On shower/toilet models twin water tanks are standard, however with yours having external shower the second tanks is usually optional as would be the 2nd gas bottle, most dealer would roll that into a package

Another thing to be aware of is Outbacks come standard with Battery "Provision but the battery itself is optional, though as you have ordered Solar, it should be a Package including battery (ours was) and definately shop around as others have said, and be prepared to travel if another dealer is going to save you $$$.

I think by upgrade, they mean the cross members are spaced far enough apart to fit the tanks. They make the chassis to order, as an example, if you want an extended draw bar or drop down jacks. Thats why it needs to be done at order time. We ordered extended drawbar and extra gas bottle, the chassis was welded to suit.
