Thought I would bring to folks attention an issue I found with my fuse layout on the Sitek unit, I blew a fuse while fitting extra lighting and when checking the unit found the tags didn't match the circuits.
On removal of the unit with the battery turned off the unit came 12v live, I found the battery wire to the switch had never been locked in, the screw was firm and the lead has been jammed in for all this time obviously when fitted they didn't do any checks on the connection.
I then went over all connectors and found most had been crimped on the cables insulation, not good.
Replaced all connectors, soldered and crimped wires and made new fuse tags as it was not possible to match the cable with the tags, cables were untangled and sorted out. Glad I discovered it while in the shed not on the road, even though I carry the gear.
I have now redone nearly every 12v connection on my van, I think the stove and toilet flush are the only one's I haven't had to redo, all the others have been faulty, if they were 240 you could have killed someone.
I should mention that while my rig is a 2009 it was never used until last December when I bought it, virtually in storage so it was like a new van so I'm doing the warranty type work and I think if I bought a new van I would have to get a proper electrician to check it out and would probably forgo the warranty and do it myself, then I would know the job is done properly.
I just can't get over the sub standard job on wiring, welding is good, panel work is good but the bloody wiring is crap.
Must have been built in the week before Xmas holidays I think.
